Instructions for Learning & Having Fun During the Holidays
· All assignments have been carefully planned in such a way that students
continue the learning process during the holidays, using a variety of interesting
activities.
· Students must to bring back their charts / posters and other projects to school
after the holidays.
· Parents are required to explain each homework to the child. However, the
activities / projects, creative work, book reports, essays and sentences must
be the work of the child. Parental help and guidance is to be provided only
where indicated / needed.
· Students should use loose sheets to do these assignments / activities except
where indicated otherwise.
· The syllabus covered so far during the 1st Term should be revised thoroughly
during summer holidays.
· Students should make their own scrap book where needed.

Project Work: Pakistaniat
Handicrafts of Pakistan
Make posters / models / replicas depicting some of the handicrafts
of Pakistan. Give brief information about where these are made
discuss the colours and materials. Your project will be displayed in
school after the summer holidays.
English
1. Imagine you had gone to sleep. When you woke up in the morning, you were
either Spiderman, Superman or Batman. Write an account based on the
following:-
è What did you do in this situation?
è What was the reaction of your family members? (Word limit:
150-175 words)
è Write about all your adventures.
è How did you feel when you woke up?
è Remember to write in paragraphs.
2. Read interesting articles / stories from the children’s magazine. Write a short
review (100-150 words), describing the topic / subject matter of the story /
article and explain what you found interesting about the story / article.
3. Write a diary entry for one week, try to make the entries brief and interesting.
Date your diary.
4. Read classic novels from the suggested Booklist and write Book Reports.
5. Students are to read first two Extended Reading Selection pages provided at
the end of English Ahead Student Book 2. This is for pleasure reading only.
Students to read ‘Hans in Luck’ and ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’.

2. Project: Designing a play ground
Your school needs a new playground. You have been assigned to
do the job. The length of your playground is 41 feet and the width
of the playground is 25 feet. You must design the best playground
possible to fit in this space. Your ground can have many different
equipments in it. Use graph paper to draw what your playground
will look like.
Each box will represent space on the ground that is one foot long
and one foot wide (one square foot).
You should consider including monkey bars, slides, sandboxes
tables, swings, climbing frames and some plane patches too. You
may ask your parents/siblings to help you.
3. Research how speed, distance and time are related. Use the internet and display
your finding on a scrap book.
Science
1. Solve Q. 3 from Test Yourself pgs 22 & 32 ‘Science Fact File-2’.
2. Count the number of ways in which you can reduce energy waste (especially
electrical energy). Write a note on 'Can load shedding be reduced if each one
of us acts on the number of ways we have counted to reduce energy loss?'
(Hint: read the template that is attached to your electricity bill)
3. Research on endangered animals in Pakistan:
Find out what species of animals in Pakistan are endangered. Research how
they became endangered and how human can protect them.
Write a newspaper report including the above and suggest ways to promote
initiatives that will help protect the endangered species.

Geography & History
1. Select a civilization from the past, collect related information & pictures. Paste
on a chart, draw a time-line indicating important events at the bottom of the
chart.
2. Read the biography of any historical figure (world-wide) and collect pictures of
him / her and then make a booklet about the personality which can be kept in
the class as a reference material.
3. Locate five major countries on a world map, try to collect pictures of those
countries & paste them on the scrap book with the relevant information.
