Cacao & Coconut Oil as Fuel

The student studied using cacao beans and coconut oil as alternative fuels. There were three treatments tested: 1) 1/2 tablespoon processed cacao beans and 29mL coconut oil, 2) 1 tablespoon processed cacao beans and 41mL coconut oil, and 3) 25mL pure kerosene. The time it took each treatment to boil 18mL of water was recorded. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference in boiling times between the three treatments, suggesting cacao beans and coconut oil could serve as alternative fuels.

IPSF OFFICIAL ABSTRACT FORM

Title: Cacao (Theobroma cacao) Beans and Coconut (Cuccos nucifera) Oil as Alternative
Fuel”
Name: ANGELO S. CUEME
Address: POBLACION, MALITA, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL

In recent years, the value of fuel is important but its market price is high or costly. Most
people can’t afford to buy fuel products because of poverty problems. Coconut oil is
produced by crushing copra, the dried kernel, which contains about 60-65% of the oil.
Cocoa beans are the seeds of the tree theobroma cacao. The purpose of this study is to
provide support in places where there is no electricity. The researcher further aimed to
make an alternative fuel through the use of cacao beans and coconut oil. There are
three treatments in the study. Treatment 1 has ½ tablespoon of processed cacao beans
and 29mL of coconut oil. Treatment 2 has 1 table spoon of processed cacao
beans and 41ml of coconut oil. Treatment 3 has 25mL pure kerosene. The time it takes
for every treatment to boil an 18mL of water was being observed and recorded. The
date was analyzed using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Results showed that the F
value, 0.9482 is lesser than the F critical value of 9.5521. Results also revealed that
there was no significant difference between the three treatments of the study. This
implies that the hypothesis is accepted. Thus, there is no significant difference between
the three treatments.

As part of this project the student directly handed manipulated or interacted with
