Session 1 Unpacking of Content


Duration of Session 4 Hours
Key Understanding to be Demonstrates understanding of the content standard,
developed performance standard and learning competencies.

• “Unpack” or break standards/power standards
• Explain the learning competencies that constitute a
standard/power standard
• Correlates standards and learning competencies
to the curriculum framework
• Create a template aligning the whole concept of the
curriculum design using content standards, performance
standard and learning competencies

Introductory *Group the participants based on the classification of Asian
Activity/Review instruments.
*PRE-TEST

Activity  Understand the Grade 8 curriculum framework in Music


and Arts
 Review the ideas or concepts about content standards,
performance standards and learning competencies
 Unpack and discuss the content standards/ power
standards, performance standards and (5-10 mins).

Analysis
 Compare the content standard, performance standard &
learning competencies column in your curriculum guide.

Guide Questions:
1. How do you feel about the tasks of “unpacking” or
breaking down the standards?

2. How does unpacking helped in the delivery of


instructions?
3. Have you experienced writing/evaluating learning
standards? What about learning competencies?
4. Is there a relationship between a standard and learning
competencies?
Abstraction/Generalization 1. Review definitions of learning, content and performance
standards and learning competencies.
2. A learning competency (LC) includes essential
knowledge, skills and values students are expected to
know and be able to demonstrate as an indicator of
understanding the Content Standard.
