Student A is correct that there are 8 planets in the solar system, as they are only considering the classical definition of planets and not dwarf planets. Earth has the largest mass of the inner planets. Dr. Grumbles claim that winter is colder because Earth is farther from the sun during that season is wrong, as Earth's distance from the sun does not change over the course of a year. The sun's path is shorter across the sky during the winter months compared to summer. Seasons on Uranus would be opposite of those on Earth, with long periods of darkness in the winter and brightness in the summer.

1.

There is a disagreement with two students on how many planets are in the solar
system. Student A claims there are 8 planets and Student B claims there are 12
planets. What is some evidence to support each claim?
a. Answer: I think that student B is thinking about the dwarf and the normal planets
and student A is thinking about just the normal planets.
b. Answer:

On which planet would you weigh the least? What is your evidence to prove
this?

a. Answer: I think the planet with the least mass is Uranus because it is completely
made from gas and is the smallest gas giant.
b. Answer: I was wrong about Uranus being the planet with the least mass. The
planet with the least mass was Mars being it was the least dense.
2. How does the mass of our planet compare to the other inner planets?
a. Answer: I think that are planet has the largest mass because if I remember correctly
Earth is the biggest inner planet.
b. Answer: I was right about our mass but now I know that Mars is the closest to our mass.
3. Dr. Grumbles claims that it is colder during the winter because Earth is farther from
the sun. Provide evidence to prove him right or wrong?
a. Answer: I think that he is wrong because the earth always is the same distance
away from the sun.
b. Answer: I was right but now I know that distance from the sun does not affect
the heat.
4. How does the path of the sun in the sky change during seasons?
a. Answer: IDK
b. Answer: At first, I didn’t know about the sun’s path but now I know that the sun’s path is
shorter during the winter.
5. How would seasons on Uranus be different from Earth?
a. Answer: I think that Uranus is very dark because it is very far from the sun.
b. Answer: I was wrong about Uranus being very dark, now I know that it is very bright int
the summer and dark in the winter.
