Introducing Me
I remember sitting in the backyard making mud pies to serve to the invisible customers of
my imaginary bakery. While adding the finishing touches to my famous pebble pie, I was
singing some song I made up and my next-door neighbor came to my backyard fence and said,
“Hey! Is that you singing?” A bit embarrassed, I replied “Yes.” She told me she had been
listening and asked me to sing another song for her. I have always been a lover of music. I’ve
been singing since I was a small child. I love to listen to music and make music as well. When I
was about six or seven years old, my parents forced me to take piano lessons. I hated it as first
but as the years went by I developed a love for piano. I’ve had about five different instructors in
my life time but I’ve learned a lot on my own from playing around on the keyboard and watching
tutorial videos. I also love art. I like to draw, paint and create crafts. I enjoy photography and
videography as well as video editing.
When you first meet me, you might think I’m either quiet because I don’t talk very much
to new people or you may assume that I’m mean, which is a common first impression apparently,
because I have such a “serious face” all the time. But those who really know me know that I am
the complete opposite. I’ve been described as animated. I love to laugh and make others laugh. I
tend to be dramatic and very energetic.
Waiting is an enemy of mine. Patience is not my strongest characteristic. I tend to want
things as soon as possible. I like when things are timely and instant. I also pick up skills rather
quickly and when I have to teach something that I’ve mastered already, it can be frustrating to
wait for others to finally understand it.
I’d say that organization is my greatest strength. I like when things are orderly. A lot of
times, I’ll plan out my day. I make lists and set reminders for what I need to get done. This
especially helps when it comes to school work. I am involved in many activities and have many
responsibilities outside of school so I need to organize myself to ensure that I make time for
everything I need to do and make sure to prioritize so that important things get completed first.
I am very observant. I watch people from a distance and observe how they act and listen
to what they say. I also pay attention to behavior when I interact with them. From, these
observations, I get an idea of what people are really like and that determines my relationship
with them. Fakeness and hypocrisy irk my nerves. Dishonesty is a complete turn off. It creates
distrust. Pride also bothers me. Thinking that you are better than others and having a
condescending attitude is extremely off- putting. I have come in contact with many people that
have that kind of personality and I have never connected with such people. Because I dislike
such behavior I also make an effort to check myself to ensure that I do not emulate those same
characteristics that I do not like to see in other people.
One experience that became a turning point in my life was when I was hurt by someone I
looked up to as a role model. She was such a beautiful girl. She seemed so nice and pleasant and
she came across as if she held the same morals and values as I did but it turned out that she was
not who I though she was. As I got to know her more, I realized that she wasn’t someone I
wanted to look up to and it hurt me. But I took that hurt and used it to better myself. I made a
vow that I would no longer depend on other people to be a role model for me but that I would be
the role model that I wanted to see. I realized that there may be other youth like me looking for
someone to be a positive example for them and so I decided to be that person. I want to be some
that the youth of this generation can look at and be encouraged to be better themselves.
One thing that influenced this change of mind is my relationship with God. I believe that
God has created me with a purpose and a calling to change the world or at least be a positive
influence in some way shape or form and that is exactly what I want to be. I want to share this
purpose with others and continue to use every skill, every gift and every talent that God has
blessed me with to be a catalyst of change in this dark world.
