Accounting Course Reflection
Family, religion, and environment all play a role when talking about ethics. Personal
ethics are a philosophy of what an individual thinks is morally right or wrong. Of course when it
comes to family, people want to have the best family they can have, or the right one. Many
people raise their children to become just like them, because they want to succeed by changing a
few things along the way. This example is an ethics principle because the parent thinks that if
they succeed by following their footsteps, and fixing the mistakes, it is the right thing to do.
When talking about religion, there are so many existent religions, it's hard to count.
Religion is a part of personal ethics because different people think different religions are
the one for them, or are the right ones for themselves. Individuals will morally choose which
religion they think is most beneficial personally, or which beliefs suit them the most. To
continue, even the environment can be portrayed as ethical. Let’s say a person is staying
somewhere they do not like. It’s common for them to move somewhere they feel more
comfortable in. They portray this to be the right place for them.
Although there are many things that go into personal ethics, in general it is what an
individual thinks is morally right or wrong. Someone could decide what is right or wrong from
many different ways, for example, emotions. Deep down, we as humans on earth feel emotion. If
there is a decision that we feel most comfortable making, we most likely will choose that one.
Not only can emotion be taken into account, but so can education. Throughout the years of
someone’s life, we are bound to learn something. There’s a quote on the internet that reads, “You
learn something everyday,” and it’s completely true. Whether it is small or large, as living things
we are bound to make mistakes and learn from them every day of our lives.
We then input that learning skill and gather information to mold our decisions. If we
learn about something that is right, we will stick to that. Ethical choices need to be made every
single day. We will always be presented with decisions, and we tend to personally pick the one
that we want the most and what makes the best sense. Ethics can also be put into financial and
business applications, while it is necessary to make lots of decisions. Most importantly, you are
the only person who can be encouraged enough to make decisions for yourself and stand your
own ground. When making decisions, we must always ask ourselves these few questions: How
will this decision affect me in the present and me in the future? How will my decision affect those
around me, including people and businesses? And is this a smart decision for me to make right
now?
In finance, there is something called the Code of Ethics. To summarize the Code of
Ethics, it is basically an agreement to have the utmost honesty and to deter wrongdoing. It is also
a safety measure to share information between financial professionals, it essentially encourages
right from wrong. It is used to build trust between the professional and the client.
Overall, everyday life has personal ethics and decisions we need to make. It also falls into
the business and financial category, there are so many things that deal with ethics, and so many
different ways people process information. Some people share similar personal ethics when it
comes to rules or laws, but that doesn’t mean we are all the same. There will always be a decent
population that thinks differently. Therefore, not everyone will have the same ethics as each
other, which is what makes us unique. In the end, we can improve as a society when we actively
listen and pay attention to those around us. Once we can accept that we are all different and have
different outlooks on certain situations, we can successfully move forward to the next chapter.
