The document contains Khristinne Martin's responses to two questions, with the most personally rewarding experience being helping an elderly blind woman cross the street safely on Christmas Day, and the greatest need in the church being for members to fully accept and live by God's words through personal example.

MARTIN, KHRISTINNE M.

12 Stem 3

Mr. Emmanuel Noel Jose

JULY 13, 2020

1. What is the most personally rewarding experience you’ve ever had for serving
someone else?
- A few years ago, during Christmas Day, we attended the mass. I was with my
grandmother while walking back home when I noticed that there was an elderly woman
who was having a hard time passing because there were so many cars at that time. I
approached her and saw that she was blind and a stick was her only guide. I was left
behind by my grandmother but I chose to help the old woman and guided her so that she
may continue walking safely. There was no other way than to cross a conduit at the side
of the road. She held my arms tightly so that she won't fall. Once we crossed safely, she
thanked me and talked to me for a while. I will never forget the words she said to me,
"Manghihingi na lang ako kaysa magnakaw ako." From that moment, I realized that there
are people who may not be blessed with material treasures but are very blessed with the
purity of heart. That experience filled my heart with so much joy which no material thing
could ever replace.

2. What do you think is the greatest need in our church? How can you contribute to
meet those needs?
- As I see it, fully accepting and inculcating God’s words is the greatest need in our church.
We Catholics hear the word of God but we do not always listen to it. Hearing is different
from listening. We may hear it but we do not instill it in our heart and mind. We may
hear it but we do not act upon hearing it. If words will remain words, what could possibly
be changed? As a Catholic, I could help in instilling the word of God by first doing it to
myself. If other people can see that I am doing what I am saying, I could influence them
to do the same. As they say, how can you give something you do not have? I will start
with myself and then show others how great it is to be living by God’s words and mercy.
