Quantity Survey & Estimation: Engr. Shad Muhammad

This document summarizes Lecture 4 of a Quantity Survey & Estimation course. The lecture covered estimating four types of arch masonry: segmental arch with span and angle given, segmental arch of 60 degrees, semi-circular arches, and flat arches. It also discussed estimating different types of steps, including traditional, amazing, and modern steps, by calculating quantities of earthwork, concrete, brickwork, and finishing work from drawings. Students were referred to additional pages in their textbook for more information on step estimation.

Content of Lecture # 4

 Arch Masonry

 Estimate of 4 types of Arches Masonry

 Masonry Steps

 Calculation of Simple Masonry Steps

3 Engr. Shad Muhammad

Arch Masonry Calculations
 The quantities of masonry work in arch is calculated by multiplying

the mean length of arch by breadth of wall and by the thickness of

arch.

 In the case of culvert, the quantity of arch masonry work is equal to

the length of arch face to face * mean length of arch * thickness of

arch.

Estimating of Steps

 Steps are usually constructed when the construction of the building

has progressed sufficiently & the earthwork in foundation for step

needs excavation afresh.

 The earthwork in excavation for steps is usually neglected.
