HR & PAYROLL ADMINISTRATION (ECPA)
COURSE STRUCTURE
This exhaustive course gives a comprehensive understanding of the principles of
payroll management and effective controls with a strong emphasis on practical
application in the working environment. Whether you are seeking to manage

progression, this training course will provide you with the skills and knowledge
needed to perform the vital function of payroll management and the effective
implementation of controls.

skills and learning the most up-to-date processes and best practices involved in
the payroll function.
The HR & Computerised Payroll Administration is a 6 Module Program. This Course
is structured as follows;
1. TPA501: Theory of Payroll Administration
This Module will cover the theoretical knowledge and demonstration of the use of
payroll functions like calculation of Gross pay, Taxable Income, etc. Payroll
Statutory deductions like PAYE, NSSA, Pensions, and loans will be dealt with in
detail. The difference between Earnings, Allowances and Employee benefits will
be taught as well as tracking employee time off or accrual of annual leaves.
Basically, the objective of this Module is to train students how to administer payrolls
in-terms of Zimbabwe Statutory requirements and best payroll practice.
Students will also explore Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet application as used in a
business setting. Excel Payroll Models will be discussed including creating Payroll
schedules, payslips, payroll calculation formulas and Payroll journals.

2. TPA502: Zimbabwe Labour Law
The Zimbabwean Labor Legislation will be discussed. This module seeks to develop
in students a sound awareness of the legal rules regulating relationships between
employers and employees; between employers and trade unions and between
employer‘s organisation, trade unions and the state.
For more insight, the Labour Act Chapter 28.01 and National Employment Council
agreements will referred to.
3. HRM503: Human Resource Management
Human Resource Management (HRM) is the process of employing people,
training them, compensating them, developing policies relating to them,
and developing strategies to retain them.
This courses focuses on the basic & advanced principles of strategic human
resource management: how an organization acquires, rewards, motivates, uses,
and generally manages its people effectively.
4. CPA504: Computerised Payroll Administration 1
- Sage Pastel Computerised Payroll
Computerised Payroll Applications will be introduced. The Sage Pastel Payroll
(Zimbabwe Modules) will be trained in detail. At the end of this module, students
should be able to perform all payroll Administration functions of an organization
using the Pastel Payroll Package. Basic Salaries, Employee benefits, statutory
returns, Pensions, Final Deduction System, Payroll Accounting and reports will be
dealt with in detail.
Students will be taught how to set up Payroll, including department and position
codes, pay codes, workers’ compensation codes and tax rates. This Module also
cover how to set up deduction codes, benefit codes and employee classes.
5. CPA505: Computerised Payroll Administration 2
- Belina Computerised Payroll
The Belina Computerised Payroll Applications will be introduced. At the end of this
module, students should be able to perform all payroll Administration functions of
an organization using the Belina Payroll Package. Basic Salaries, Employee
benefits, statutory returns, Pensions, Final Deduction System, Payroll Accounting
and reports will be dealt with in detail.

6. CPA506: Accounting with Computer Application 1
- QuickBooks Accounting
The main objective of this course is to enable students to link Computerised Payroll
functions to Computerised Accounting functions. This is a practical book keeping
& accounting oriented course.
QuickBooks Accounting will be discussed in detail covering all book keeping
aspects of Accounting. The role of Payroll in Accounting & Reporting will be
discussed.
