Camshaft chain: removal/installation


Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
High-pressure fuel circuit:
Depressurise the system
Use a diagnostic tool
Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump
Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor
Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator connector
Remove the high-pressure pump
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Disconnect the ignition coil cables (A, B)
Remove the crankcase breather pipe from the cylinder head cover (C)
Remove the ignition coils (B)

Use a special tool: (T40039)


Camshaft chain: removal/installation
Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
High-pressure fuel circuit:
Depressurise the system
Use a diagnostic tool
Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump
Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor
Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator connector
Remove the high-pressure pump
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Disconnect the ignition coil cables (A, B)
Remove the crankcase breather pipe from the cylinder head cover (C)
Remove the ignition coils (B)

Disconnect the vacuum hose (1)


Disconnect the valve of the crankcase breather hose (2)

Use a special tool: (T40039)

Disconnect the cylinder head breather hose


Camshaft chain: removal/installation
Removal
Remove the heat shield
Disconnect
Remove thethe
crankcase
battery earth
breather
cable
pipe from the cylinder head cover
High-pressure fuel circuit:
Depressurise the system
Use a diagnostic tool
Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump
Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor
Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator connector
Remove the high-pressure pump
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Disconnect the ignition coil cables (A, B)
Remove the crankcase

Renew
Removethe
thegasket if necessary
ignition coils (B)
Remove the vacuum pump
Remove the camshaft cover

Use a special tool: (T40039)


Turn the crankshaft to TDC for cylinder 1
Note: Turn the engine clockwise

Disconnect the battery earth cable
High-pressure fuel circuit:
Depressurise the system
Use a diagnostic tool
Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump
Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor
Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator connector
Remove
Align the the high-pressure
camshaft pump
timing marks
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Disconnect the ignition coil cables (A, B)
Remove the crankcase breather pipe from the cylinder head cover (C)
Remove the ignition coils (B)

Align the camshafts

Use a special tool: (T40039)


Camshaft chain: removal/installation

Disconnect the battery earth cable
High-pressure fuel circuit:
Depressurise the system
Use a diagnostic tool
Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump
Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor
Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator connector
Remove the high-pressure pump
Lock the camshafts
Remove the engine upper cover
Use a special
Remove tool: belt upper

Disconnect the ignition coil cables (A, B)
Remove the crankcase breather pipe from the cylinder head cover (C)
Remove the ignition coils (B)

Camshaft adjuster unit


Loosen the bolts
Apply pressure to the chain to release the tensioner piston (A)
Lock the tensioner; use a locking pin (B)
Use a special tool: (T10115)

Use a special tool: (T40039)


Camshaft chain: removal/installation
Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
High-pressure fuel circuit:
Depressurise the system
Use a diagnostic tool
Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump
Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor
Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator connector
Remove the high-pressure pump
Remove the camshaft adjuster
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the timing chain together with the camshaft gearwheel
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Installation
Disconnect the ignition coil cables (A, B)
Check that the camshafts are locked
Remove the crankcase breather pipe from the cylinder head cover (C)
Fit the timing chain onto the camshaft gearwheel
Remove the ignition coils (B)
Fit the timing chain onto the inlet camshaft gearwheel
Align the marks (A - B)
Refit the exhaust camshaft adjuster
use new bolt(s)

Use a special tool: (T40039)

Fit the timing chain onto the inlet camshaft gearwheel


To the top of the inlet camshaft gearwheel

Disconnect the battery earth cable
High-pressure fuel circuit:
Depressurise the system
Use a diagnostic tool
Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump
Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor
Disconnect
