HOW WE DO IT? (proposed curriculum)

• Students will develop [introduction/intermediate/advanced] STEM skills learning in a

design group via tracks.

• P l a y Pa t t e r n will provide curriculum and teachers.

• Learning sessions will take place one a day a week/3 hour sessions for the duration of [8,
12, 24 or 36 weeks combined]. We also offer online course supporting flipped classroom
approach.

• Students will be evaluated on their ability to process the content, collaborate within their
learning teams, and content.

PROGRAM STAFF

Who will be teaching the workshops?

Play Pattern has trained all instructors who are all college graduates, the majority of whom have gone on to
pursue master’s degrees in education, technology, and the arts. Each instructor has experience in classroom
management and teaching complex concepts in an easy to understand language. All instructors are
trained in project-based learning and parent communication before working in the field. Each instructor is
required to submit weekly reports outlining the progress in each class. All instructors are fingerprinted by
the New York City Board of Education or appropriate state agencies prior to working in any school or
organization.
MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES

Robotic Kits
Enough WE DO LEGO® building pieces, motors, sensors AND computers (PCs or MACs) for the students in the course.
Your school/organization may choose to purchase the WE DO LEGO® bricks, motors, sensors or we can provide these at
no additional cost.

Technology
Technology required to run the workshop must be provided by your school/organization (iPads/software). It is essential
that there is at least one iPad available for every two students in the workshop. The students will use laptop computers to
design the programs for their robots. Design Prep will provide access to computers during each session of the workshop.
Internet connection also required. Tech support will be provided to install software and manage resources.

Requirements
Since your students will be doing a lot of building either on the floor or at large tables and will need enough space in the
room to construct their robots and observe them in motion. There will also need to be desks available to hold the laptops
if you not be using desktop computers. You may choose to use a classroom with desks that may be moved around to
accommodate the floor work; the floor may be carpeted or not. Your school/organization will need to provide storage
space in the classroom, or in a room nearby for the class materials. The storage area must be in a locked or secure area.

Additional
Additional supplies include art supplies and a Smartboard or projector for instruction.
