1. This paper consistsof section A, B and C with total of eleven (11) questions.
2. Answer all questions in section A and B and any two(2) questions in section C.
3. Cell phones are not allowed in the examination room.
4. Non programmable calculator and mathematical table are allowed in the examination room.
5. Where necessary the following constants may be used:
 Acceleration due to gravity g = 10m/s 2
 Specific heat capacity of water = 4200Jkg -1K-1
 Pie (π) = 3.14

SECTTON A (15 MARKS)

Answer all questions from this section.
3.(a) why does a solid body weight more in air than when immersed in a liquid

(b)A half meter rule AB is freely pivoted at 18 cm from end A and balances horizontally when a body of mass 35
g is hung 48 cm from end B. Calculate:-

5.(a) Three beakers are identified size and shape ,one beaker is painted matt black ,one is dull white and one is
gloss white. The beakers are filled with boiling water
(i) In which beaker will the water cools most quickly? Give a reason
(ii) State a process in addition to conduction, convection, radiation, by which heat will be lost from the
beaker
(b) An insulted cup holds 0.3kg of water at standard pressure is poured into the cup. What will be the final
temperature?

6. (a) (i)how can you reduce friction of different machines like cars ,aero planes,milling machines and bicycle
(ii) a body of mass 40kg is placed in a straight track sloping at an angle of 45o to the horizontal. If the body is
helding from slipping by friction, calculate the normal friction.
(b) (i)briefly explain why part of the road ahead of a person apparently looks as if it has a pool of water on a
sunny day?
(ii) Paraffin has greater refractive index than water. What can you say about the
(i) Relative velocity of light in paraffin and in water?
(ii) Path of ray of light when passing from the water into the layer of paraffin?

7. (a) A given isosceles prism is positioned such that its angle of prism is 300. It is made from special plastic
material whose refractive index is 1.42.
(i)Sketch on a piece of paper a geometrical representation of the prism with rays of incidence, refraction and
emergence.
(ii)Calculate the angle of minimum deviation for this prism.

8. (a) Draw the pulley system with the velocity ratio of 4.
(b) A machine of velocity ratio of 4 needs 2000J of energy to lift the load of 400N through a vertical distance
of 2.5m

(i) Determine the work out put 02 marks


(ii) Determine the efficiency of the machine
(iii) Mechanical advantage of a machine 02 marks

(c) A screw jack has a screw pitch of 4mm and the effort arm of 16cm. Determine the percentage efficiency of this
screw jack, if it needs an effort of 50N to lift a load of 750N?

SECTION C (25 MARKS)

9. (a)(i)how eddy currents obtained ?
(ii)Eddy current having of several effects which are having a break effect and increase heat inside the
conductor, how can you minimize two effect mentioned above
(b) Suppose the galvanometer coil with resistance 10Ω and the full scale deflection 15mA. If it is to be
converted so that it gives a full scale deflection current 1.5A. Find the value of the other resistance
(ii) Suppose the galvanometer coil resistance is 10Ω, the full scale deflection current is 15mA and the instrument
is to be converted to measure a full scale deflection potential difference of 3V. Calculate the resistance of
multiplier

10.(a) John wants to determine how different radiation occur in electric field and their penetration power ,As physics
student help him to determine radiation occur in electric field by diagram and explanation
(b) Radioactive element has a half-life of 3min. If the initial count rate is 512counts per min, how long does it
takes to reach a count rate of 64 counts per min?What fraction of original number of atoms is left at that
time?

11.(a) (i) What is sustainable sources of energy?


(ii)Name six sources of sustainable energy.
(iii)State the law of conservation of energy.
(b)Assume you are posted in place like singida and shinyanga regions as a technical advisor, where the electrical
energy is a problem but there is wind in this regions, enough sun during the day time and cattle rearing.
What will you do to these regions so as to alleviate them with electrical energy problems?
