Name of Activity: Plant Today for Tomorrow (Green School Project: Tree Planting)
II. Rationale
Trees are essential in our lives. It purifies the air we breathe by absorbing carbon dioxide and
provides us oxygen. In the process, it also helps cooling the climate by sucking in greenhouse gasses and
providing fresh air. Food-producing trees give us food for consumption of humans and other animals. It
helps in absorbing water in the soil to prevent flooding and prevents soil erosion. It also provides habitat
to terrestrial biodiversity and home to hundreds of species of moss, mammals, fungi, and plants. In
addition, these trees can provide shades and add beauty to the place with lasting benefit to the
environment.
This activity is a means of taking care of our environment with emphasis to schools and
communities around it. It aims to address health, environmental awareness, disaster risk reduction and
mitigating effects of climate change. Also, trees will refresh the minds of the students and help reduce
stress and anxiety. The shades provided by the trees also help in protecting the skin from the sun and
heat. This tree planting will focus on multi-purpose trees and fruit trees for nutrition in school. Fruit
trees will range from avocadoes, mangos, jackfruit, and guavas. Furthermore, this activity will instill
connection to the nature, unity and cooperation to the participants while achieving sense of
accomplishment and satisfaction.
