Design of Slab

The document provides details on the design of reinforced concrete structural elements for a final project. It includes the design of slabs, beams, and columns. For slabs, it calculates thickness, loads, and reinforcement for positive and negative moments. Beam design includes load calculations, reinforcement sizing for moments, and shear design. Column dimensions are selected and loads calculated, longitudinal bars are sized, and tie design and code checks are provided.

Design of

Reinforced Concrete
FINAL PROJECT

Course Instructor : Dr .Mohammad Al – Qaralleh

Prepared by : Hamza Yousef Al – Tarawneh
DESIGN OF SLAB
 Thickness of slab

h = L / 18.5 for one end continuous

= 4 /18.5

= 0.216 m

h = L / 21 for both end continuous

= 5.4 / 21

= 0.257 m

Say h = 250mm , hollow block = 180mm and slab concrete = 70mm

b = 120mm and d = 180mm

 Loads calculations

Density Depth Load

Tiles 25 KN/m3 0.025m 25x0.025 = 0.0625 KN/m2
Mortar 22 KN/m3 0.025m 0.55 KN/m2
Aggregate 15.7 KN/m3 0.12m 1.884 KN/m2
Plaster 22 KN/m3 0.02m 0.44 KN/m2

DL (excluding self – weight) = 0.0625 + 0.55 + 1.884 + 0.44 = 3.499 KN/m 2

Partitions = 2.38 KN/m2

Top = 0.07 x 24 = 1.68 KN/m 2

Blocks = 0.9 KN/m

Rib = 0.5 (0.12 + 0.16 ) x 0.18 x 24 = 0.6048

( W of blocks + W of Rib ) / 0.52m = 2.89 KN/m 2

DL = 10.449 KN/m2

LL = 2 KN/m2

But, applied loads

DL = 10.449 x 0.52 = 5.43 KN/m2

LL = 2 x 0.52 = 1.04 KN/m2

DESIGN OF BEAMS
 Thickness of beam

In order to get a hidden beam, we use the thickness of the slab as the thickness of the beams,

so h =250mm

b = 800 mm and d = h – cover – 0.5 db = 250 – 25 – 0.5 (18)

d = 216 mm

 Loads Calculations

DL = 10.449 KN/mm2

LL = 2 KN/mm2

DL for the beam = DL of slab + self-weight = (0.5 (4) (10.449) + 0.5 (5.4) (10.449)) + ( 800 (250) (24) / 10 6 )

DL = 53.91 KN/m

LL for the beam = LL of slab = 0.5 (4) (2) + 0.5 (5.4) (2)

LL = 9.4 KN/m

DESIGN OF
COLUMNS

 Column Dimensions

In order to get a hidden column, we use the thickness of the wall as the thickness of the columns,

so h =250mm, b =500mm and L = 3m

The column to be designed is the terminal column,

whose tributary area 4/2 in 3.80/2 ( from the structural plan) .

 Loads Calculations

DL = 10.449 KN/m2

LL= 2 KN/m2

The axial loads acting on the column = ((Wu x Tributary Area) + self-weight) x nfloor

Pu = ( (1.2 (10.449) + 1.6 (2)) x ( 2 x 1.9 ) ) + ( 0.5 x 0.25 x 3 x 24 ) x 3 )

Pu = 206.4 KN

 Selecting Longitudinal Bar

Φ Pn = Φ 0.8 ( 0.85 fc (Ag – As) + As fy )

206.4x 103 = 0.65 x 0.8 x ( 0.85 x 30 ( 250x500 - A s ) + 420 As)

As = 7073.15 mm2

As = 0.01 Ag = 1250mm2

As =1526.81 mm2

6∅ 18

 Design of Ties

a) 16 dbar = 288 mm

b) 48 dst = 48 x 10 = 480 mm

c) Least col. dim. = 250 mm ←

use Φ 10 @ 250 mm.

 Check Code Requirements

Steel percentage 0.01 < ρ = As (500) (250) = 0.012 < 0.08 OK

Number of bars = 6 > min no. of bar 4 OK

Minimum tie size = Φ 10 OK

Spacing of ties OK
