POWER SYSTEMS 2 – EE521
ASSIGNMENT 2
DUE DATE: 18th JUNE, 2021
QUESTION ONE
The power system shown in Fig.1 is supplying a 10 MW load at 1.1 kV. An SLG fault occurs at
bus 3. Determine the fault current and line voltages. Assume that the fault resistance is 6.6 Ω.
The equipment parameters are shown in the figure.
Figure 1 Sample Power System
Assume a power base of 30 MVA and base voltage of 11 kV at the generator terminal. Assume
pre-fault voltage of 1.0 p.u.
QUESTION TWO
For the power system shown in Fig. 1, calculate the phase voltages and currents, if phases b
and c, at node 3, experience a short-circuit through a resistance of 6.6 Ω.
QUESTION THREE
For the power system shown in Fig.1, determine the phase currents and voltages if the system
experiences a double line-to-ground fault at node 3. Assume a fault impedance of 6.6 Ω and
ground impedance of 13.2 Ω
QUESTION FOUR
A 132 kV, three-phase, 50 Hz transmission line 200 km long, consists of three conductors of
effective diameter 18 cm, arranged in a vertical plane with 3.5 m spacing and regularly
transposed. Find the inductance and MVA rating of the arc suppression coil in the system.
‘QUESTION FIVE
A 33 kV, three-phase, 50 HZ, overhead line of 100 km long has a capacitance to earth of each
line equal to 0.02 μF per km. Determine the inductance and kVA rating of the arc suppression
coil.
