Relfective Report

This document is a reflective report submitted by a student at the University of Greenwich. It summarizes two SMART goals - an academic goal to improve time management skills and an employability goal to enhance teamwork abilities. For the academic goal, the student discusses implementing a daily/weekly schedule, reflecting on challenges with time management initially but improvements over time that benefited academic performance. For the employability goal, the student explains why teamwork is important and actions taken like participating in a student program to develop collaboration skills through activities and exercises. Both goals had a positive impact on the student's well-being by reducing stress and feeling more organized.

I. Introduction

2
People often think that obstacles in life prevent them from succeeding, but those are
just words used to hide laziness and refusal to adapt to changing circumstances.
People need to change and improve themselves to be able to compete in this
developed society. Academic and employment goals, two SMART goals set at the
beginning of the semester, will be presented and analyzed in this report. I will discuss
my achievements in self-improvement in my report, as well as the challenges I faced
at the time, and from there offer lessons and thoughts on how to develop further in the
future.

II. Reflection on three SMART goals

1. Reflection on an academic goal

- SMART academic goal:

Within a year, I aim to improve my time management ability during my studies. In
particular, I want to be the best time manager possible so that I can produce the
highest quality essays and assignments.

- Reasons to choose this goal

Everyone has the same amount of time, which they do not all use to the fullest
extent for a variety of reasons ( Örücü et al., 2007, cited by Pehlivan). As for myself,
I think I'm an indolent person because I'm usually in a rush. Numerous errors will
occur, and it will negatively affect numerous aspects, therefore, decided to retrain
myself in time management since it greatly benefits me personally and is also crucial
for undergraduate students who wish to perform well in their studies. First of all,
being able to plan and arrange your actions can help you be more productive and
efficient at work. Secondly, time management relieves work-related stress by
eliminating concerns about mistakes or missing deadlines. Additionally, effective
time management gives you more opportunity to reach your personal and professional
objectives, which expedites the process of success. Additionally, effective time
management gives you more time for your friends, family, health, and personal
interests, all of which contribute to a well-balanced life. Lastly, time management
helps you break bad habits by preventing you from squandering time on activities like
procrastinating, watching movies, playing games, or browsing the internet.

- Action plan:

I've made significant progress in the last five months in terms of wise and efficient
time management. To help with time management, I have created a daily and weekly
calendar that divides the job into manageable chunks. Before turning in for the night,
I make a list of everything I have done, everything I haven't done, and everything I
want to accomplish. For example, I put down the amount of time I need to complete
3
the exercises and the best way to manage my schedule so that I can do them
successfully.

- Reflection:

Time management proved to be somewhat challenging for me initially. It is very hard for a
lazy, careless person to live by the rules. For instance, in the beginning, I wasn't used to
scheduling each work precisely on time, which led to confusion, poor outcomes, and even
discomfort for me pressure. However, as things improved in the end, I began to adjust to life by
learning how to manage my time, which greatly improved my quality of life and allowed me to
live a more relaxed lifestyle as well as develop into a more respectable person overall.

 Impacts on academic performance and plans

My academic performance is greatly influenced by my ability to manage my time. The ability

to better manage my time between work and extracurricular activities has improved my ability to
balance my life. Furthermore, since our efforts will yield better results, developing time
management skills will help things go smoothly. For instance, I budgeted my time well to
complete high-quality tasks, and I made sure to always remember when my assignments were
due to devote enough time to completing them. My future goals will focus on cultivating and
mastering time management techniques. Furthermore, it is difficult to avoid learning more and
acquiring new capabilities such as searching and finding sources of articles or essays. It will save
a lot of time to be able to add more information when you combine the talents you currently
know.

 Impacts on well-being aspect:

To put it briefly, time management is an incredibly amazing skill that has benefited me
academically and personally. By creating a schedule and attempting to stick to it every day, I
was able to better manage my time, and eventually, things got more organized, which made me
feel more at ease while I was spending time with everyone. position. One could argue that
effective time management will undoubtedly enable people to live more purposefully, develop
greater discipline, and for the most important reason, avoid stress when too many tasks are put
together at once.

2. Reflection on an employability goal:

 SMART employability goal

For employment goals, I hope that I can improve my teamwork skills within 1 year. In particular,
I want to get better at coordinating and communicating with others so that I can work in a team

4
and produce outstanding results. Since I was able to accomplish this objective in less than a year,
I believe I have enough time to get better.

 Reasons to choose this goal

The capacity to collaborate with people well is essential (Denise Jackson, Ruth Sibson, Linda
Riebe, 2014) so I choose to focus on this ability because working in groups is something we
must do in school or at business, regardless of age. It can be argued that working in groups has
many notable advantages, such as "students who work in groups may be more productive, more
confident, more creative and have better interpersonal skills." ( Anne Farewell, 2013). For
myself, I don't think I function well in groups because I don't communicate with the others in my
group very much or because I don't think we understand each other well enough for me and the
others to coordinate properly.

 Action

I took part in a first-year student program at Greenwich University in Hanoi, Vietnam, to hone
my collaborative abilities. I gained a lot of experience and improved my teamwork abilities by
taking part in this event. It was a terrific experience, and we had a lot of fun cooperating to try to
win the games in which we took part. In addition, the exercises that our teachers set helped me
develop my collaboration abilities. To be more precise, my groupmate and I divided and
discussed the tasks we had to perform before working together to submit the assignment and
present it to the class.

 Reflection

I think I've done a pretty good job of improving my cooperation abilities. Through school
subjects where teachers assigned homework, set challenges, and needed group projects, I was
able to participate and get better. Despite my frequent participation, there are situations when
group dynamics prevent me from working efficiently. To be more precise, we frequently assign
ourselves different amounts of labor, or we might not complete the work as required because of a
lack of communication and understanding. However, I have come a long way since then I can
now occasionally seek articles about enhancing group abilities or even ask acquaintances about
their experiences in this area. One thing to note is that it is necessary to avoid group disbandment
due to several reasons, such as “Negative team experiences were the source of attitude” ( Bianey
C. Ruiz Ulloa, Stephanie G. Adams, 2004), to avoid disunity.

 Impacts of independent learning on my employability development

I can't dispute that the daily activities in these classes provide me with life experiences that will
be highly beneficial to me in the future. I do not doubt that I will have plenty of chances in the
future to hone my collaboration abilities, and I will make it a point to do so. Additionally, to
5
advance personally and become more employable in the future, you must develop additional
abilities, such as interview and presentation skills, etc.

 Impacts on wellbeing aspect

It can be said that teamwork skills are used in a variety of contexts. For example, taking part in
activities for new students helps me to improve my teamwork skills and is enjoyable. Similarly,
working in groups during class sessions has greatly aided in my communication skills
development and effective group coordination. I'm thrilled and will make an effort to get
involved in more school events so I can socialize and make new acquaintances. Indeed,
teamwork skills are not so easy to learn, but once mastered, it is an extraordinary thing, they
greatly benefit not only myself but also everyone else, and they foster a supportive environment
where people can grow and support one another.

III. Conclusion

To put it briefly, the report mentioned above offers an analysis of the steps involved in reaching
career and education objectives. It is evident from the report that I am making progress toward
my educational objectives and am on schedule to meet my career ambitions. Furthermore, I
believe that the best way for me to develop the abilities I have set out to develop is to hunt for a
part-time job soon; this employment should not only help me earn income but also place high
importance on time management and teamwork. Not only that, but I should work in groups and
engage in more hands-on activities. For example, I should join a school club or engage in school,
work, or other practical activities. It is necessary to improve time management. All things
considered, even though I haven't yet reached my SMART and Employability targets, if I keep
pushing for progress, I will achieve those targets soon.
