Adventist Youth Leadership Resources, Induction Manual.

Introduction

This document seeks to improve previous versions of induction scripts by adding the early bird previously known
as (eager beaver) while also updating the colours of the junior youth classes. It is lso the purpose of this document
to emphasize completion of the modules done at Senior Youth level and adding the yearly schedule on them.
Through this document we also seek to incorporate a curriculum equivalent to that of Masterguide called (SYL)
Senior Youth Leadership which focuses on the Senior Youth clubs. The induction ceremony is supposed to build a
moment never to be forgotten by those involved.

The youth induction ceremony is supposed to be the very first activity every year in the youth ministries calendar
and it covers all clubs from the Adventurers, Pathfinders, Ambassadors, Young Adults, Master Guides and Senior
Youth Leaders (SYLs).
Careful planning of this enrolment and induction night program is necessary. It should begin on time and
stay within club hours, and may be held on what will be a regular club night.

All speeches in this manual are meant to be recited from memory by both leaders and members alike, especially
the Junior Ministry. N . B Senior Youths have a leeway to use their own words "without altering the meaning".
Emphasis is given in understanding the words first before reciting the speech. Thus, an assessment will be
done by the conference representative to ensure everything is done above par.

It is ideal for enrolment to commence earlier and as the first event of the year (resources and time permitting) with
allowance given for club leaders to help prepare the members for the subsequent induction ceremony
thereafter. Below is a suggested outline for the Enrolment Program which can be adopted.

Suggested program:
Welcome and Introduction to Junior and Senior Youth Ministry Clubs
1. Uniform needs and requirements explained.
2. Dues explained–what they are used for.
3. Program highlights shared.
4. Staff organization explained and staff members introduced.
5. Membership applications filled out, signed and handed in.
6. Membership Passport filled in and photograph taken (if available).

Club Organization
1. All members are placed in units.
2. The unit counsellor introduces the year’s plans and program.
3. Unit members choose captain, scribe, and unit name.
4. May begin the year’s curriculum, e.g., Week 1 from the teaching plan at the beginning of each
class, introduces Book Club selections, Pledge and Law, etc.
5. Deputy Director may take charge of members for a games period.

Parents’ Meeting
(With Director/Leader, while member organization takes place)
1. Give parents rules-and-regulations sheet and explain.
2. Discuss responsibilities and discover additional talents useable in the club. Serve refreshments if desired.

Closing
1. All members and parents reassemble for director’s minute.
2. Benediction
ADVENTURER CEREMONY

Director: “I hereby declare that the induction ceremony of the club is now in order. The
room is darkened as the Spirit candle is lit. For the light of our program, we turn to the Spirit of
Adventuring, represented by the candle which has just been lit. This is the spirit of reverence,
training, adventure, fun, learning, awareness, and awakening to God and man. This candle in and
of itself is not complete, however.

Will the following Adventurer staff please come forward?” The director then calls the names of the
staff that light the six foundation candles while giving the appropriate meaning for the level
represented by the candles lit.

SENIOR YOUTH CEREMONY

NB: this is a combined Young Adults and Ambassador ceremony but the two can adopt the same
procedure when inducting separately. Senior Youths have a leeway to use their own words
"without altering the meaning".

Senior Youth Leader -

I hereby declare the induction ceremony of the Senior Youth Club now in order.
For the light of our program, we turn to the Spirit of Senior Youth. The candle which I now light
represent this spirit. It is the Spirit of Adventure, Fun, Learning, Camaraderie, Awareness, and
Awakening, and above all, a Spirit of Reverence and a Spirit of Service to God and man. This
candle represents the light that Ambassadors shed on this dark world. It stands for shining
Ambassador Examples, showing how the Christian life is happy, healthful and filled with service
to others. This light is, of itself, NOT complete or sufficient. To introduce the complementary lights,
we call on our Senior Youth Staff to assist in the ceremony.

Associate Youth Leader -

The Master Guide Level is a course of study that will help one to lead young people, to a greater
knowledge and relationship to our Lord Jesus, our Saviour. Jesus, through Isaiah said, “I will lead
the blind in a way they know not, in paths they have not known, I will guide them. I will turn the
darkness before them into light and the rough places into level ground.” A Master Guide is an
experienced leader of Christian Youth, training them for service to God. A Master Guide is to
exemplify the Fruits of the Spirit, and the Character of our Heavenly Father, and the
Characteristics of Jesus Christ, our personal Master Guide.

Associate Youth Leader -

The Senior Youth Leadership is a leadership curriculum for Senior Youth Ministry. The church is
facing an alarming depletion of young people. It has often been reported that youth are leaving
the church not because of doctrinal issues but relational ones. The youth want a say in the
development and planning of the work of God. Generally, the youth want to be recognized, listened
to, appreciated, and involved. This Leadership Curriculum attempts to prepare youth and young
adult leaders to address these important issues.

Senior Youth Leader -

The Spirit of Senior Youth candle represents the good things in the Adventist Youth programs. It
represents the high ideals for which the clubs stand for and the growth that each Senior Youth will
make as a club member.

We will now light the Adventist Youth Aim candle.

Person 1
Sir/Madam, I represent the candidates whose Aim is, “The Advent message to all the world in my
generation”.
My relationship to Jesus Christ is of such a nature that it compels me to share the gospel with any who
will receive it, the good news of salvation and Jesus’ soon return.
Associate Youth Leader -
On behalf of the ___________Senior Youth. I accept the candidate’s vow to live by the AY Aim.

Senior Youth Leader -

Let us proceed with the ceremony of lighting the AY Motto candle.

Person 2
Sir/Madam, I represent the candidates, whose Motto is,
“The love of Christ compels me.”
I am drawn to Him by His exemplary life, the symbolic act of His crucifixion, His conquering
resurrection, and His promise of an earth made new in the pattern of the original creation. The closer I get
to Him, the closer I find myself identifying with the needs of my fellow human beings.

Associate Youth Leader

On behalf of the ______Senior Youth, I accept the candidate’s vow to live by the AY Motto.

Senior Youth Leader -

Let us proceed with the ceremony of lighting the Senior Youth Pledge candles.

Person 3
Sir/Madam, on behalf of the candidates, I dedicate myself to the commitments of the Senior Youth Pledge.
“Loving the Lord Jesus, I promise to take an active part in the work of the Adventist Youth Society, doing
what I can to help others and to finish the work of the gospel in all the world.”

Loving the Lord Jesus.

This introductory thought directs our minds toward the motto of Adventist youth. It is the impelling force
of the pledge and the movement of Adventist youth. The value of service for the Master is measured by
the love and dedication with which Adventist youth serve him. Does the Lord Jesus completely direct the
life?

Person 4
Sir/Madam, on behalf of the candidates, I dedicate myself to the commitments of the AY Pledge.
I promise.
The word promise is synonymous, in this case, with desire, and can revolutionize the life. Promise means
that youth are not dominated by someone else, but rather are ready and willing to follow the Lord’s
leading. They have a purpose, and are committed. This means that the youth are available for action, and
will decide for the best in life. They will follow the proposed path with determination and will keep their
eyes fixed on the goal. The Master can count on them to fulfil their promises completely.

Person 5
Sir/Madam, on behalf of the candidates, I dedicate myself to the commitments of the AY Pledge.
To take an active part in the youth ministry of the church (in the work of the Adventist Youth
Society).
This means to be involved in the activities of the AY Society, including the meetings and witnessing
outreach. The Adventist youth will always be ready to help someone, and will support his or her AY
Society and church in their various activities.

Person 6
Sir/Madam, on behalf of the candidates, I dedicate myself to the commitments of the AY Pledge. Doing
what I can to help others. This is a commitment that denotes readiness and dedication on behalf of
others. It means to do one’s best for a cause, and represents the greatest effort to help in every phase of
activity within the organization of the Adventist Youth Society and in the church. The true Adventist
youth is always ready to take advantage of every opportunity to serve.

Person 7
Sir/Madam, on behalf of the candidates, I dedicate myself to the commitments of the AY Pledge. And to
finish the work of the gospel in all the world. This last part of the Adventist Youth pledge urges the
youth to think of the AYS aim. It represents the extension of the divine mandate of our Lord Jesus in a
universal scope. It is a challenge to the youth to understand the divine command. First in Jerusalem, then
in Judea, then in Samaria, and finally unto the ends of the earth. Adventist youth can help in four different
ways to finish the ask: Living consecrated lives, making themselves available for every opportunity to
serve, praying for the Lord’s work both locally and worldwide, and giving sacrificially of their own
financial means to spread the gospel and finish the Lord’s work. Thus, they enter into true stewardship,
giving their time, their talents, their means, and themselves.

Associate Youth Leader

On behalf of the _________________________ AYs, I accept the candidate’s vow to live by the Senior
Youth Pledge.

Senior Youth Leader

Let us proceed with the ceremony of lighting the Ambassador Module candles. (N.B where possible
emphasis should be on ambassadors respiting the modules as opposed to young adults.)

Person 8
Sir/Madam, on behalf of the candidates, I will explain the Discipleship Module.
This module deals with how to help youth become disciples and stay committed to that way of life.
Extensive presentation on the psychological aspect of youth leadership is given. Growth and nurture group
leaders specializing in the spiritual well-being of their members will find resources in this module to
accomplish all that might be desired whether in youth or family situations. The ultimate objective is
discipling others to the Lord and equipping them to share in this experience.

Person 9
Sir/Madam, on behalf of the candidates, I will explain the Leadership Module.
This module incorporates aspects of training and actual practice of those activities required for senior
leadership, and includes both philosophical base and practical practices. Emphasis is placed on qualities of
idea leadership, the psychology of leadership, leadership styles and functions, and practical matters such
as how to chair a committee or business meeting.

Person 9
Sir/Madam, on behalf of the candidates, I will explain the Outreach Module
This module teaches Ambassadors today on how to grow into a lifestyle of evangelism, it challenges the
Ambassador on how they should make disciples of others. It seeks to orient building a lifestyle that
includes various efforts: personal ministry, developing your testimony, small group life, and public
evangelism. All these elements are connected to the work of evangelism Christ commanded His disciples
to do in Matthew 28:19, 20.

Person 10
Sir/Madam, on behalf of the candidates, I will explain the Outdoor Module.
This module covers the basics of human personality, the most important traits of good character, the
relationship of personality and character to Christian growth and maturity, and the opportunities for
character growth in outdoor adventure pursuits.

Person 10
Sir/Madam, on behalf of the candidates, I will explain the Vocation Module.
This module begins with foundational insights about planning and preparing for success, followed by
practical challenges to listen for and learn how to plan in order to be effective in work and life in general.
It teaches through biblical examples how our relationships with others, and our aptitude can be ways that
God guides in our character, calling, and vocational considerations. Throughout this module you will
discover that God is calling for a generation to know the difference between temporary and eternal things.

Person 11
Sir/Madam, on behalf of the candidates, I will explain the Relationship (Friendship and relationship
skill development) Module.
This module challenges the followers of Christ to participate in the reconciling work of humanity to God.
This ultimately begins with God modelling this work then incorporating His followers to cooperate with
Him to restore what is broken. This module covers a wide range of applications to one concept—the value
of relationships. God demonstrates His relationship to humanity. Humanity seeks to mirror God’s
relationship to us through forgiveness and openness. There are human relationships that need to grow on a
biblical foundation.

Person 12
Sir/Madam, on behalf of the candidates, I will explain the Community Module.
This module provides strategies for reaching out to our neighbours and communities from a ministry
philosophy known as Christian Community Development (CCD). This module teaches a holistic approach
to ministry which engages the spiritual, social, economic, political, cultural, emotional, physical, moral,
judicial, educational, and familiar dynamics of an individual and community in order to bring about
Kingdom transformation. The ministry philosophy of Christian Community Development works
holistically to transform both the individual and the community in which they live so that there is no need
to move from the neighbourhood.
