Introduction and Welcome – Youth Leader
Calling the ceremony to order: “I hereby declare the induction ceremony of the
………………………………………………….. SDA Youth Society now in order.”
The room is darkened…
“For the Light of our programme we turn to the spirit of the AYS Ministry. The candle that I now light
proclaims this spirit. It is the spirit of dedication, enthusiasm, productivity and above all, a spirit of
reverence and a spirit of service to God and man. This light is of itself NOT complete or sufficient. To
introduce the complimentary lights we call upon our Associate Youth Leader.”
While lighting each candle, the Associate Youth Leader defines the bands as follows:
Youth Evangelism Band – This band has the prerogative of identifying potential evangelism grounds,
planning and organising for outreach follow-up and ensuring the nurture of those who join the Church.
Youth Publishing Band – This band taps and defines the journalistic talents within the Youth Society.
It endeavours to communicate the goals, aspirations, achievements and challenges of the Youth while
at the same time creating avenues for sharing their faith.
Youth Drama Club Band – This band harnesses and defines artistic talents of the Youth. It endeavours
to pass timely messages in an audio-visual way through dramatised acts. It brings out how the youth
observe and perceive things and combines imagination, perception and acts into one whole in
humorous way. The club plays both evangelistic and entertainment role.
One Book One Week Band – This band plays an educational role by motivating and encouraging the
Youth to enhance their reading of useful materials. The band encourages the research of spiritual
themes, their compilation into research papers and the presentation of the same before a forum for
discussion. The band endeavours to create an atmosphere conducive for intellectual and spiritual
development of all Youths.
Nature and Recreation Band – This Band has the prerogative of identifying nature studies and suitable
avenues where the Youth can see the marvel of nature and learn of their Creator. The band plans in
liaison with the Youth Ministries Council on how the Youth will go to identified venue. It also organises
for teachers to help all grasp the lessons in the identified nature study as well as compiling a report
on nature studies.
In addition to this the band has an additional responsibility of doing research on recreational activities
and in liaison with the Youth Ministries Council, drawing up recreational programmes. This band caters
for the social and physical needs of the Youth.
Youth Choir Band – This band harnesses and refines the singing talents of the Youth while at the same
time creating an avenue for the Youth to evangelise through music. The band learns new songs,
compiles own compositions and usually retains and maintains old songs. It compiles music reports and
looks into avenues of recording the refined songs. It also plays an entertainment and worship role.
Leader explains the symbolism, emphasizing the high ideals for which the organisation stands and the growth
that the Youth will make as members.

Leader calls up the Youth to light the Pathfinder Law candles. Eight youth, one by one, light the Law candles,
march smartly, salute, light the candle, thereafter salute and repeat, “Sir/Madam, I represent the
candidates who hereby vow to:
“Keep the morning watch, which means I will have prayer and personal Bible study each day.
“Do my honest part, which means by the power of God I will help others, and do my duty and my
honest share, wherever I may be.
“Care for my body, which means I will be temperate in all things and strive to reach a higher
standard of physical fitness.
“Keep a level eye, which means I will not lie, cheat or deceive, and will despise dirty talk or evil
thinking.
“Be courteous and obedient, which means I will be kind and thoughtful of others, reflecting the love
of Jesus in all association with others.”
“Walk softly in the Sanctuary, which means in any devotional exercise I will be quiet, careful and
reverent.
“Keep a song in my heart, which means I will be cheerful and happy and let the influence of my life
be as sunshine to others.
“Go on God‟s errands, which means I will always be ready to share my faith and go about doing good
as Jesus.”
When the Pathfinder Law candles have all been lit, the Associate Youth Leader declares, “On behalf of the
Worldwide Youth Ministries, I accept the candidates vow to observe the Pathfinder Law.”
The Leader calls for the lighting of the Adventist Youth (AY) pledge candles. Five AY members light the
candles and declare, “Sir/Madam, I represent the candidates who pledge:
“Loving the Lord Jesus. The value of service for the Master is measured by the love and dedication
with which Adventist Youth serve Him. Does the Lord Jesus completely direct your life?
“I promise. Promise means that the Youth are not dominated by someone else, but rather are ready
and willing to follow the Lord’s leading. This means that the Youth are available for action and will
decide for the best in life. They will follow the proposed path with determination and will keep their
eyes fixed on the goal. The Master can count on them to fulfil their promise completely.
“To take an active part in the youth ministry of the Church. This means I will be involved in the
activities of the AY society, including the meetings and witnessing outreach. The Adventist Youth will
always be ready to help someone and will support his/her AY Society and Church in their various
activities.
“Doing what I can to help others. This is a commitment that denotes readiness and dedication on
behalf of others. It means to do one’s best for a cause, and represents the greatest effort to help in
every phase of activity within the organisation of the AY Society and in the Church. The true Adventist
Youth is always ready to take advantage of every opportunity to serve.
“And to finish the work of the Gospel in my generation. This part urges the youth to think of the
AYS aim. It represents the extension of the divine mandate of our Lord Jesus in a universal scope. IT is
a challenge to the Youth to understand the divine command first in Jerusalem, then in Judea, then in
Samaria and finally unto the ends of the earth.”
At the completion of the lighting of the AY Pledge candles, the Associate Youth Leader declares, “On behalf
of the Worldwide Youth Ministry, I accept the candidates’ vow to observe the AY Pledge.”

“Honour Christ in the choice of places I Go
“Honour Christ in my choice of Associates
“Honour Christ in that which I choose to Speak
“Honour Christ in the care I give to my Body Temple”
After the AY Legion of Honour candles have been lit, the Associate Youth Leader declares, “On behalf of the
Worldwide Youth Ministry, I accept the candidates’ vow to observe the AY Legion of Honour.”
The Youth Leader asks the candidates to come forward and take position in front of the table between the
Associate Leader and the Leader facing the Church and standing at attention. The Leader then asks them to
