You bought a set of China tea cups from a famous department store, as a
Christmas present for your sister. When you reached home, you found that a
few cups were broken. You went back to exchange the damaged cups, with the
receipt, but the sales executive refused to take them back.
Write an email to the store manager in about 150-200 words. Your email should
do the following things:
State what problem you had with the purchased item.
Complain about the inability of the sales staff to address the problem.
Describe how you want the store to solve the problem to your satisfaction.
To whomsoever it may concern,
I have been a regular customer of your store and never had a reason to complain. However, I
had a particularly unpleasant experience last week at your store.
I purchased a set of China tea cups on 12th December. While purchasing, I did not get a chance
to see each and every cup in the box. On returning home, when I opened the box, I noticed
cracks on a few cups. So, I decided to return the damaged pieces.
Following day, I went back to the store, along with the receipt, but the sales executive at the
exchange counter flatly refused to address the problem. Not only was he impolite and blamed
me for careless handling of the product, but he also refused to exchange the product or refund
the amount.
Such behavior is not what I had expected from the representatives of your well-reputed store.
It would be great if you could help resolve the problem and ensure that the damaged cups are
replaced or a new set is provided, in exchange. These cups are a Christmas present for my sister
and it would be really disappointing if this experience hampers our holiday cheer.
I am looking forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
James Smith
Club Survey
You are a member of an Officer's Club. A small area in the club is available for development. The
President of the club has sent out an opinion survey to see what the club members feel the space
should be utilized for - a library or a conference hall.
Option A: The library caters to people of all ages, non-members can join, profits can help in buying
more books, book clubs can be started.
Option B: The conference hall is required for club meetings, can be let out to corporate firms for
meetings, will help in generating revenue, can be used as a reading room.
Choose the option that you prefer. Why do you prefer your choice? Explain the reason for your
choice. Write about 150-200 words.
I strongly feel that a library would be a suitable choice for the club members.
It is an undeniable fact that 'one is never alone with a book'. In the age of modern technology,
people are forgetting the charm of going to libraries and reading books. A library would cater to the
needs of all members, belonging to varying age groups. It would help in inculcating the habit of
reading to our young members. A cozy, well-stocked library would even become a major attraction
for the intellectuals and the members would be tempted to visit the club more often.
Not only can this, by offering library memberships to non-members, the club generate revenue
which can be used to buy more books. The library can also start a Reading Club for the members
wherein the members can read the same book and then discuss its characters, plot and writing
style.
The conference hall may not be a great idea as the monthly club meetings are mostly held in the
club lawns. Also, the conference hall would offer very limited use while a library will be accessible to
the members every day.
Hence, I strongly feel that setting up a library would benefit the club members and add to the
repute of the club significantly.
