In the following questions a statement of Assertion is followed by a statement of Reason. Mark the
correct choice as
(a) If both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion.

(b) If both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion.

(c) If Assertion is true but Reason is false.

(d) If Reason is true but Assertion ls false.

(e) If both Assertion and Reason are false.

6. Assertion. Capillaries are thinnest blood vessels.

Reason: Capillaries connect the branches of arteries and veins. 1m

7. Assertion: Redox reactions involve both reduction and oxidation.

Reason: Reducing agent removes oxygen from the other compound in a redox reaction. 1m

8. Read the following and answer any four questions: 1x4 m

A reflector is surface which reflects light or radiation. All polished surfaces can be good reflectors.
Surfaces are polished, generally with a silver compound to make them reflecting. They may be
plane reflecting surfaces or curved ones. Laws of reflection are universally applicable to them. The
curved reflecting mirrors are installed at height in parking area. Some curved reflecting mirrors are
installed near the dressing table in hotels. Plane mirrors are installed in periscopes.

1. Spherical mirror with polished surface curved outwards is called:

a. convex mirror. b. concave mirror

c. curved mirror d. none of the above

2. The mirrors that are curved inwards are used as :

a. mirrors in parking area b. as a rear-view mirror

c. mirrors for security d. reflectors in solar cooker

3. The angle of reflection for a ray of light falling normally on a mirror is:

a. 0 b. 30°

c. 45° d. 90°

4. The angle of incidence for a ray of light striking a convex mirror at its pole is 30o,its angle of
reflection is?

a. 0 b. 30 o

c. 60 o d. 90o

5. An object at a distance of 40 cm from a convex mirror gets its image between its pole and focus

The nature of the image is

a. Virtual erect enlarged b. Virtual erect diminished

c. Virtual, inverted diminished d. Real erect diminished

9. Read the following and answer any four questions 1x4m
All living cells need nutrients, oxygen and other essential substances. Also, the waste and harmful
substances need to be removed continuously for healthy functioning of cells. So, a well-developed
transport system is mandatory for living organisms. Complex organisms have special fluids within
their bodies to transport such materials. Blood is the most commonly used body fluid by most of the
higher organisms. Lymph also helps in the transport of certain substances.

(i) The blood leaving the tissues becomes richer in

a. carbon dioxide
b. water
c. hemoglobin
d. oxygen

(ii) Why are WBCs called soldiers of the body?

a. They are capable of squeezing out of blood capillaries.

b. They are manufactured in bone marrow.
c. They fight against disease causing germs.
d. They have granular cytoplasm with lobed nucleus.

(iii) Which of the following is the correct feature of lymph?

a. It is similar to the plasma of blood, but is colourless and contains less proteins.
b. It is similar to the WBCs of blood, but is colourless and contain more proteins.
c. It is similar to the RBCs of blood and red in colour.
d. It contains more fats.

(iv) Which of the following helps in maximum transport of oxygen?

a. Red blood corpuscles

b. Platelets
c. Plasma
d. White blood corpuscles

(v) What prevent the backflow of blood in heart?

a. Septa
b. Valves
c. Arteries
d. Veins

c. Carbon dioxide gas is passed through lime water for prolong time. 3m
OR
A student stored silver nitrate in a copper container. Few days later when he opened the container,
the copper sulphate solution had changed its appearance. Elaborate the change that had taken place
with the relevant chemical equation.
15.a) A compound ‘X’ is mixed with another compound Y. This mixture of X and Y is used in food
items make them soft and fluffy and tasty. Identify the mixture, X and Y’. Give the chemical
