Please arrange your chairs and
settle down for we are about to start
our discussion.
a. Prayer
Before anything else, may I request
everyone to please stand. Let us
pray first.
Let us bow down our heads and
pray…
Amen.
Please be seated.
(the students take their
respective seats)
b. Classroom Rules
But before we begin, let me remind
you first of our classroom rules that
you all need to follow.
1. Respect your teacher and also
your fellow classmates.
2. Be attentive and learn to listen
especially when someone is
speaking in front.
3. If you have questions or
clarifications, just raise your hand.
understood?
Good. I hope that you will all obey
Yes, ma’am!
B. Review
Before we start our new lesson, who
among you here can recall our
previous topic?
We talk about DNA and RNA
ma’am.
Yes, Very good! So what is DNA?
DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is
a molecule that carries the

genetic instructions used in the
growth,development, functioning,
and reproduction.
Very good! What about RNA?
RNA, or ribonucleic acid, is a
molecule that plays a crucial role
in various cellular processes,
particularly in the synthesis of
proteins. Like DNA, RNA is a
nucleic acid, but it has a single-
stranded structure.
Very good! I’m glad that you can still
remember our previous discussion.
C. Motivation Class, before we delve into our new
lesson, are you familiar with
superheroes?
Yes, ma’am!
Of course you do right? Whether
from your childhood or even up to
this day, you have a fondness for
superheroes.
So I have here some images of your
most favorite characters or
superheroes, as we call them. I want
you to guess who they are and what
strength or power they have.
(Students enthusiastically named
all the pictures shown)

Now, in connection of our previous
discussion, what do you think our
next topic will be?
I think our topic will be all about
mutations, ma’am.
Alright, good guess! Let’s discover
that later and find out what our next
topic will be.
D. Activity
But before we finally discover our
new lesson, let’s familiarize
ourselves first with some challenging
words that we may encounter during
our discussion.
Instructions: Read the questions
carefully. Encircle the letter of the
correct answer. ANSWERS:
1. The company announced its plans 1. A
for expansion into new international
markets.
a. Increase
b. Constriction
c. Reduction
2. She visits the library frequently to 2. B

5. The artist created an interesting 5. A
piece with an inverted color scheme,
turning the traditional colors into their
opposites.
a. Upside-down
b. Straight
c. Upright
E. Analysis 1. What is mutation?
It is a permanent change in the
DNA arrangement of a gene.
2. What are the two general
types based on the ranges in
size from a single DNA?
The DNA mutations and the
chromosomal mutations.
3. How do we get mutations?
Mutations can be inherited and
acquired.
4. How do we know whether that
mutation is good or bad? There are good mutations but
also it can be harmful to any
organism’s genome.
5. How about the syndromes?
How can we avoid them? The best way to avoid those
syndromes, see a doctor three
months before you try to have a
baby, do not smoke or drink
alcohol.

E. Abstraction Let’s have another activity entitled
“Who am I?”
Direction: Choose your answer from
the box and answer the guide
question.
ANSWERS:
1. I am the type of mutation in which 1. FRAMESHIFT MUTATION
the DNA bases are changed due to
either loss or addition of DNA bases
resulting to the change of the gene’s
reading frame. Who am I?
2. I am the type of mutation in which 2. DELETION
section of DNA is lost, or deleted?
Who am I?
3. I am the type of mutation that 3. MISSENSE MUTATION
changes one DNA base pair (like A
is changed to C) that result in the
substitution of one amino acid for
another in the protein made gene.
Who am I?
4. I am the type of mutation that 4. INSERTION
changes the number of DNA bases
in a gene by adding a piece of DNA.
Who am I?
5. I am the type of mutation in which 5. NONSENSE MUTATION
the DNA is abnormally copied one or
more times. Who am I?

F. Application
Let’s have another activityentitled
Fill Me!
Directions: Copy the graphic
organizer below and fill in the
definiton in one sentence of the
different kinds of chromosomal
mutations. An example is given as
your guide.
We are facing the pandemic due to
the Corona Virus Disease or the
COVID-19 which affect all of us. For
over a year, the said virus had
mutated which results to a new strain
or variant. Explain why the said virus
has a new variant?
Viruses mutate. Multiple variants
have recently made headlines,
including a UK variant, Brazilian
variant and some others, some
emerging variants are believed to
be transmissible.
Very well said!
