The concept of quality in context of building industry can be considered to have evolved through

five stages:

Documentation, Inspection, Quality Control During Execution, Quality Assurance & Total Quality
Management.

Quality Control (QC):

The operational techniques and activities (such as reviewing checking, inspecting testing, etc) that are
used to fulfill requirements for quality in construction works. In simple words QC is the process of
inspecting the construction site to identify and correct defects.Quality Control ensures that workers,
operators, and management correctly respond to the specified QA standards.

What is QC in construction?

In construction, quality control refers to the processes and procedures that are involved to ensure that
all materials and completed projects meet high standards and criteria that are put in place during the
planning stages of the process

Quality control in project sites

Construction quality control is a process that should be integrated into every construction project
regardless to its size and refined as lessons are learned over time. When done well, the result of this
effort is an improvement in first-time quality, which means less rework and higher profits for your
company.

Quality Control Laboratory for civil construction work

Quality Control Laboratories and civil construction work always go hand in hand and such laboratories
are integral elements of all major construction project sites. A typical Quality Control Laboratory meant
primarily for concreting, routine soil tests etc. in an Indian construction project site may have most or all
of the following items in addition to other project specific items which could vary from project to
project:

1. IS Sieve Sets: 80mm, 63mm, 50mm, 40mm, 31.5mm, 25mm, 20mm, 16mm, 12.5mm, 10mm, 6.3mm,

What are IS codes

The IS stands for the Indian Standard Code, which is a series of standards established by the Bureau of
Indian Standards (BIS) to ensure the quality and safety of products and services in India. These codes
cover a wide range of industries, including construction, engineering, electrical, and many more.

The Bureau of Indian Standards publishes these codes for the harmonious development of the activities
of standardization, marking, and quality certification of goods. These codes are prepared after extensive
research done across the country by reputed construction companies and organizations.

Why are IS Codes Important?

IS codes are important because they provide a benchmark for quality in the construction industry.

The use of IS codes ensures that the construction work is carried out in a consistent and standardized
manner. This helps to minimize the risk of errors and mistakes and ensures that the projects are
completed on time and within budget. The use of IS codes also helps to maintain the safety and health of
workers and the public.

Indian standard codes are list of codes used for civil engineers in India for the purpose of design and
analysis of civil engineering structures such as buildings, dams, roads, railways, and airports.
