Converting a Fraction to a Percent

In converting fraction to percent, the following steps may be followed:

1. Convert fraction to decimal.

2. Multiply by 100.

3. Add the percent sign to the number.

Examples:

a.

Write ¼ as a decimal by performing the division:

4√1.00 = 0.25

Move the decimal point two (2) places to the right and add the percent sign:

0.25 = 25%

Thus,

= 0.25 = 25%

b.

30

Write 2/30 as a decimal by performing the division (note the remainder):

30√2.00 = 0.06

Move the decimal point two (2) places to the right and add the percent sign:

0.06

=6

Converting Percent to Fraction

In converting percent to fraction, refer to the steps below:

1. Remove the percent sign.

2. If the percent is a whole number, simply write the number over 100, and then reduce it to the

simplest form.

3. If the percent is a fraction, multiply the number by

100

4. If the percent is a decimal, convert it to a fraction then apply step 3.

5. If the result is an improper fraction, change it to a mixed number.
