03 How to choose the right agent
Key Information Lexmark provides four tools to connect your printers to Lexmark Cloud Services:
• Native Agent is built into the firmware of your Lexmark Internet of Things-ready
printers
• Fleet Agent is an application installed on an on-site server or host computer
• Printer Agent is an application directly installed on a Lexmark printer
• Local Agent is an application installed on a host computer to enroll USB-connected
printers
Further information on each Agent is provided below.
Native Agent Native Agent is a type of firmware that allows Lexmark Internet of Things (IoT)–ready
printers to communicate with Lexmark Cloud Services. When enabled, it can enroll a
Lexmark printer to Lexmark Cloud Services.
Native Agent:
• Supports data collection and configuration for Lexmark IoT-ready printers. For more
information on supported printer models, see supported printer models.
• Makes sure the printer firmware is version 075.272 or later.
• Enrolls printers using the following:
o Printer Enrollment Tool (PET)
o Cloud-based pre-enrollment
o Printer-based enrollment
• Eliminates the need for other printer applications and on-site software installations
To enroll multiple printers with native agents simultaneously, use the Printer Enrollment
Tool (PET). A pre-enrollment option is also available.
Fleet Agent Fleet Agent is an application configured and installed on an on-site server or host computer
with high availability (which means it is always on and available). It can enroll one or more
printers from Lexmark and/or third-party manufacturers to Lexmark Cloud Services.
Fleet Agent:
• Requires a stable server or host computer with a constant Internet connection.
• Supports data collection from all Lexmark printers. For more information,
see supported printer models.
• Supports configuration for Lexmark printers with eSF version 2.0 or later.
• Supports data collection only for third-party printers.

03 How to choose the right agent, Continued
Printer Agent Printer Agent is an application configured and installed on a Lexmark printer to enroll that
printer to Lexmark Cloud Services.
Printer Agent:
• Requires running the Printer Enrollment Tool on a network connected computer to
discover and enroll printers.
• Supports data collection and configuration in Lexmark printers with eSF version 3.0 or
later (touchscreen models). For more information on supported printer models, see
supported printer models.
Local Agent Local Agent is an application configured and installed on a host computer to enroll USB
connected printers to Lexmark Cloud Services.
Local Agent:
• Supports data collection of the enrolled printers
• Configuration deployment is not supported in printers enrolled through Local Agent.
• Does not support printer firmware update from Lexmark Cloud Services.
• Does not support reporting devices in Analytics.
Recommendation IF YOU ARE MANAGING CHOOSE
