Vertical Streaks when Performing a Duplex Copy/Scan
on the ADF
Issue description
When doing a Duplex scan or copy using the ADF, the backside of the scanned printouts appear with vertical streaks.
Solution
1. To resolve this issue, make sure to wipe the ADF glass
pad with a clean cloth or paper towel.
2. Perform a duplex test copy/scan and check if the issue
persists.
Possible Cause
This can be caused by a possible accumulation of dust in
the ADF glass pad (A).

Jam
Issue description
A 600.11 paper jam appears on the printer display while powering the printer on.
This error means the printer sensor is detecting some packaging materials left on the printer supplies that were not
completely removed.
Solution
1. Open the printer front door.
2. Remove the supplies (toner cartridge and imaging unit).
3. Separate the cartridge and imaging unit.
4. Check for any packaging material (such as wrappers, foam, etc.) left on the supplies.
5. Insert the supplies back to the printer.
6. Press the "Continue" button on the control panel to clear the error message.

Lexmark MS/MXx31, B3340, B/MB3442 | Horizontal Light
Bands on the Printout
Issue description
Narrow horizontal bands appear on the printed image.
This bands appear in a pattern with a 96 mm distance between each defect.
Solution
1. Power the printer Off.
2. Open the printer front door.
3. Remove the supply (toner cartridge and imaging unit).
4. Separate the toner cartridge from the imaging unit.
5. Shake the toner cartridge, side to side, then re-install it back to
the printer.
6. Power the printer On and perform a test print.
Note: The horizontal bands should completely disappear after
additional printing.

Issue description
There are visible vertical line(s), streak(s), or void(s) depicted on
the printouts.
Solution
1. Ensure the paper loaded in the tray is a supported media.
2. Print the following printer internal pages.
Menu Settings Page (MSP):
Press ► >Settings > Reports > Menu Settings Page
Print quality troubleshooting page:
Press ► >Settings > Troubleshooting > Print quality test pages
3. From the MSP, check whether the supply levels (toner
cartridge and imaging unit) are low and need replacement.
4. Remove the supplies (toner cartridge and imaging unit) from the printer.
5. Separate the toner cartridge from the imaging unit.

Solution
6. Inspect the supplies and replace if necessary.
a) Check the surface of the developer roller for any lines, marks or
streaks. Replace the toner cartridge if necessary.

b) Check the surface of the charge roller for any lines, marks or
streaks. Replace the imaging unit if necessary.
7. Disable Quiet mode to improve the print quality output.
• Press ► > Settings > Device > Maintenance > Config
Menu > Device Operations > Quiet Mode then set it to Off. (b)

Caused by Media Stuck in the Fuser
Issue description
A jam occurs when paper is stuck inside the printer.
Solution
1. Power the printer Off.
2. Remove the paper tray.
3. Check for any paper that is stuck in the printer.
4. Clear any paper that is jammed.
5. Open the rear of the printer and check if paper is still stuck as
shown in the image to the right.
IMPORTANT! If paper is still stuck, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAR THE JAM BY STICKING AN OBJECT INTO THE FUSER
WHILE THE PRINTER IS CONNECTED TO POWER.

when Exiting the Output Bin
Issue description
The paper curls or scrolls when exiting the printer.
This causes a messy output stack as shown in the image below and could possibly lead to a paper jam issue.
Solution
1. Remove the tray.
2. Flex, fan, and align the paper edges before loading.
3. Perform a test print and check if the paper still curls when exiting the
printer.
4. If the issue persists, load a fresh ream of paper and perform another
test.
5. Should the paper still curl or scroll, change the paper weight setting to
"Light" by following these steps:
i. Access the printer's Settings from the printer home screen.
ii. Navigate through; Paper > Tray Configuration > Paper
Size/Type > Tray 1 > Tray 1 Type > Light Paper

Scan or Copy Quality: Dark Line or Shadow Appearing at
the Bottom of the Page when Using ADF
Issue description
A shadow appears at the bottom edge of the scanned output when scanning or copying from the automatic document
feeder (ADF) using short or narrow media.
Solution
1. Perform these steps when scanning and copying documents using a narrow media.
• In scanning documents, make sure that the “Original Size” setting matches the size of the paper being scanned.
Change the settings by following these steps for:
Fax: Settings > Fax > Fax Setup > Fax Send Settings > Original Size
E-mail: Settings > E-mail > E-mail Defaults > Original Size
FTP: Settings > FTP > Original Size
USB: Settings > USB Drive > Flash Drive Scan > Original Size
• In copying documents, make sure that the "Copy From" Size setting is set to the exact size for the paper being
scanned.
Touch Settings > Copy > "Copy From" Size then select the paper size
Touch Copy > Copy From then select the paper size

the Bottom of the Page when Using ADF
Solution
2. When using narrow media with mixed paper sizes, (a):feed the long edge first to the ADF.
Note: Make sure to use a supported narrow media.

3. If the issue remains, manually adjust the Scanner Manual Registration.
• Navigate to Settings > Device > Maintenance > Config Menu > Scanner
Configuration > Scanner Manual Registration
• Select
• Front ADF
• Rear ADF (Change the value of this option only when the issue also appears on the
second page of a Duplex scan or copy)
• Select Top Margin and adjust its value to a lower digit.

MXx31, MB3442 | Scanner Assembly Clip Dislodged
Issue description
When lifting the whole scanner assembly, it is coming loose. The scanner can be rotated to almost 90 degrees, and
the scanner clip is dislodged.
Solution
1. Lift the scanner assembly.
2. Insert the rear end of the scanner clip to the slot on the scanner frame.
3. Insert the front end of the scanner clip to the hole by snapping it in place.
4. Snap the clip back into place.
