A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics Grade 7
Geometry
Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts
of geometry of shapes and sizes, and geometric relationships.
Performance Standard: The learner is able to create models of plane figures
and formulate and solve accurately authentic problems involving sides and
angles of a polygon
MELC with code: illustrates polygons: (a) angles, and (b) sides. M7GE-IIIe-2
I. Objective:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Define a polygon
2. Illustrate the different classifications of polygons; and
3. Participate actively in the class discussion with at least 85%
mastery level.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Polygons
Materials: PowerPoint presentation, laptop, visual aids, chalk and
board.
Reference: Grade 7 Mathematics Learning Material
Duration: 1 hour
III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
a. Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning, ma’am!
How are you today? We’re doing good, ma’am!
b. Prayer
Before we start, let’s all stand (a student will lead the prayer)
up and pray.
c. Checking of Attendance
Class monitor, who is absent No one is absent ma’am
today?
d. Review
Let’s recall our lesson last
meeting.
It is a closed curve, all points
of which are equidistant from Circle ma’am
a fixed point called the center.
What is the name of the circle
below? Circle O ma’am
That’s right, circles are named
by their centers using capital
letters.
Radius ma’am
What are the lines related to Diameter ma’am
circle? Secant ma’am
Chord ma’am
Tangent ma’am
Very Good!
e. Motivation
“Stop That Mystery Box”
Inside the box are pictures of
different figures. When the
music starts you will pass the
mystery box. And if the music
stop, the one who is holding
the box will pick one picture
and answer the following
questions.
1. What shape is represented
by the figure?
2. How many sides are there
in the figure?
(the following are the
figures inside the box)
Very Good!
f. Presentation of the topic Polygons ma’am.
Based on the activity, what do
you think is our lesson for
today?
Very good! About Polygons
These are our objectives.
Everybody please read. (students read the objectives)
At the end of the lesson, the
students should be able to:
1. Define a polygon
2. Illustrate the different
classifications of
polygons; and
3. Participate actively in
the class discussion
with at least 85%
mastery level.
B. Activity
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Activity 1. Answer Me!
I have here an activity, I have here
list of questions and list of figures.
I will going to tell you the question
and you are going to tell the
number of figures I am talking to.
List of figures:
List of questions: 1. 1, 2, 7
1. Figure with 4 sides 2. 4, 6, 8
2. Figure with 3 sides 3. 3, 5, 9
3. Figure with more than 4
sides
Very good class!
C. Analysis
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Today we are going to discuss
about Polygons.
In mathematics, polygon is a
closed two dimensional figure
made up of line segments but not (students listen attentively to
curves. The term polygon the class discussion)
originates from the Greek word
“poly” meaning “many” and “gon”
meaning “angles”. Polygons are
named according to the number of
sides and angles they have.
Types of Polygons:
Depending on the sides and
angles, the polygons are classified
into different types, namely:
1. Regular Polygon
- A regular polygon is a
polygon in which all the
interior angles are equal
and also all the sides are
equal.
2. Irregular Polygon
- An irregular polygon is a
polygon with a different
measures of angles and
side lengths.
(a student will go to the board)
Now, who wants to go to the board
and draw one example of regular
polygon?
(a student will go to the board)
Very good!
How about irregular polygon?
Very good!
D. Abstraction
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Now class, what is a polygon? A polygon is a closed two
dimensional figure made up of
line segments but not curves.
What are the two types of The two types of polygons are
polygons? regular and irregular.
“Triangle, quadrilateral,
Can you name some kinds of pentagon, hexagon”
polygons?
Very good!
E. Application
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Since we are done discussing
about Polygons, kindly form two
groups because we will have a
group activity.
Group Activity
Direction: (students do and cooperate in
1. Cut the paper inside the the activity given to them)
brown envelope applying the
different polygons that you
have learned.
2. Paste it on the board then
classify each polygon that
you have made. Yes ma’am.
Is that clear class?
I’ll give you 5 minutes to do
the activity. Start!
IV. Evaluation
Answer the following questions.
1. Define the following
polygons.
a) Rectangle
b) Pentagon
c) Octagon
2. Illustrate the different
classifications of polygons.
a) 2 regular polygons
b) 2 irregular polygons
Identify whether the polygons
below are Regular or Irregular.
Write your answer in a ¼ sheet of
paper.
None, ma’am!
Any questions class?
All right, you have 5 minutes to
finish you task.
Student’s Activity
V. Assignment
Teacher’s Activity
Direction: In your Math notebook,
define “triangle” and draw the
different classification of triangles None, ma’am!
according to its angles.
Thank you and God bless you
Is there any clarifications or too ma’am.
questions regarding your
assignment?
If there is none, then that’s the
end of our class for today. Thank
you and God bless class.
