AR134-1 E01 (RESEARCH METHODS)
Research Methodology
The research will be classified as a quantitative research with the approach of using a
diagnostic research design, to evaluate and understand the spatial cognition theory and its
positive effects on a fire-station.
The research locale will be set on Arroceros Fire Sub-Station in Manila. It has been chosen as
the setting of the study as it is the most accessible fire station for the proponent. The data
necessary for this study are as follows:
1. Firemen behavior and circulation
2. Evaluation and Analysis of existing elements of the Fire Station
3. Arroceros, Manila Analysis
Population and Sampling
The proponents will conduct an interview to the users in the Arroceros Fire Sub-Station. The
interview will be targeting mostly the firemen who is also the main study of this research.
Questions that will be used are directed towards their behavior inside the facility and how it
affects them and their productivity.
Research Instruments
The study will be done with the proponents conducting interviews and photo documentation to
evaluate the existing conditions of the Fire Sub-station in Arroceros. Data that will be collected
are to be presented in tables.
Significance of the Study
The study aims to promote safety and ensure healthy lives as part of SDG 11 – Sustainable
Cities and Communities. The researcher aims to understand the design theory of spatial
cognition and how it can benefit its users. These fundamental approaches to research hold the
promise of guiding design choices that may promote the safe and efficient use of planned
places by all individuals, as well as the health and well-being of firefighters.
