Project:
Mixed use Resort style High Rise Building
Create a concept and preliminary design.
1. Showing how environmental considerations are resolved.
a. Building orientation on site.
b. Sun exposure and spaces affected.
2. Showing how spaces are arranged.
a. Functional relationships, zones, views.
b. Access and efficient circulation.
c. Quality of space of public, rentable and residential spaces and how you will
achieve it.
d. Site utilization. Parking location and vehicle and pedestrian circulation.
3. Showing what the building looks like.
a. Building form
b. Façade, claddings, colors, textures.
c. Window arrangement, curtain walls or balconies.
d. HVAC systems in relation to this.
4. Showing how sustainability and energy efficiency is addressed. Make it specific to
this building – how it works with form, climate, systems and materials.
a. Building form and shape to allow sustainable methods.
b. Building envelope decisions for energy efficiency. Explore and pick envelope
systems.
c. Solid waste management.
5. Showing compliance to relevant laws and ordinances.
a. Rule 7 and 8 compliances.
b. Zoning ordinance
c. Parking, height, setbacks
d. Space design considering fire safety.
e. Accessibility
Output:
Drawing and descriptions. Rough, maybe hand drawn but presentable. Do not include
content from task 1. Focus on solutions.
a. Diagrams showing concept development.
b. Preliminary Site and Floor plans. Indicative sizes of spaces. Location of doors and
windows/openings.
c. Elevations. Form and shape of building. Indicative materials, colours and textures.
Verbal presentation. To be scheduled. This will simulate a presentation session with the
client.
a. 45 minutes. 15 minutes for delivery and 30 minutes for interaction for each group.
b. Slides to show diagrams and drawings – keep text to a minimum
c. Focus on how you approach the issues and how it is solved in the diagrams and
drawings. Do not discuss about what you did in task 2.
d. Turn on cameras and dress for the occasion.
This is about creating solutions based on how you define the problem.
