I. INTRODUCTION:

Those who dare to teach must never cease to learn as their constant learning
will put them in line with the present requirements of teaching and expand their zone
of understanding on the subject.

When you were inside the classroom (as a student), all you need to do was to
listen, participate (if you like), be disciplined or undisciplined (and you’ll be
reprimanded), laugh with your classmates, share gossips with your friends, stroll
usually every after class or during vacant period, review for the exams, meet with the
deadlines of assignments or projects, and the like. In short, you all have the
choice---- to do or not to do all the things that will make you a good student for a
satisfactory future.

Getting out of the four corners of the usual place of learning is really a strange
matter. Whether you like it or not you have to be disciplined, no late arrivals, no
gossiping, use your vacant periods properly, you reprimand in a nice way (or else…),
pass your paper works as much as possible on or before the deadline. In other
words, you don’t have other choice but to be a role model to the younger
generations.

Your practices as a student would be changed after your training outside. It

was your choice of work in the future so, you must embrace all the requirements.
But as we always say, nothing is difficult if we really like the thing we chose to do.
II. RATIONALE

A. Why do we need to go through practice teaching?

Like the other courses, student teachers need to practice all the learnings
they’ve learned inside the classroom for almost four years. They’ll choose what
school where they want to do the on the job training. They will carry a letter of
permission from the university/college.

Practice teaching is not merely a requirement to finish the course. It is an

essential part of a student teacher for it is where the future educator will be trained
and be prepared to the real nature of chosen career. They would feel how to be an
actual teacher. It is the proof of readiness.

Teaching as we all know is the noblest profession, so this needs an extra mile
preparation to be appropriate in the clan… to produce quality education, and quality
graduates.

C. Actual Practice Teaching Experiences
My practice teaching covered the months of October 2018 up to March 2019.
Here are the unforgettable events and thoughts during the said period.

A. OCTOBER
● Week 1
►October 1, 2018-MONDAY (Meeting my Cooperating Teachers)
At first, I was so excited for in mind are playing different thoughts---I’m
so close with my dream by this time; that I can be with my teachers in high
school again; I feel that I am a true teacher already (hopefully soon if God
permits). But on the other side, I felt nervous of the switch (from being a student
to becoming a teacher). Could I be able to apply the information and strategies
I’ve learned? Can I be able to handle well the students? Am I qualified to belong
to the noble profession?
To cope with the worries, I prayed for guidance, wisdom and patience.
On this day, I went to school early at 7:00. I attended the flag ceremony at
7:30.
After which, I was introduced to my cooperating teachers. I was so happy
because one of them was the very patient Ms. Estela R. Cauton, my high school
MAPEH teacher. And much happier that I could be working with a young teacher
too (Ms. Christine C. Britos). Hoping to learn different approach, as traditional
and modern. The supportive Principal II, Mrs. Lourdes B. Arucan, instructed that
I’ll work with Ma’am Cauton in the months of October, November, and
December; and from January, February, March, will be under Ma’am Britos. After
meeting and short dialogs to my cooperating teachers I stayed in the office for
some other briefings, interview, and help for a while (in the office).

►October 2, 2018- TUESDAY (Meeting the Students)

On my second day, I was introduced to Ms. Cauton’s classes. At 8:45 –
9:45 I stayed at 7-Liberty class, then we had snacks break. At 11:00 – 12:00 I
met the 7-Charity students. After lunch break, I got acquainted with the Grade 8
Section Sampaguita (at 1:00 to 2:00), before meeting the Grade 8-Rose at
2:00 to 3:00.
Ms. Cauton and I agreed that I’ll do first an observation for two weeks in
her classes and will start my teaching at the start of Third Quarter.
I started to observe the way she manages her learners, the sequence of
her teaching, her manner of discussing/delivering the lesson in MUSIC 7 and
ARTS 8. I observed from Ma’am Cauton that she starts and ends the class with
a prayer
I also witnessed undisciplined actions from the students before, during
and after the class and still noticed the tolerance of my former teacher, she is
very patient and soft-spoken person.

►October 3, 2018- WEDNESDAY (The Preparation 101)

This date, the teachers and students spent the day for the practice and
preparation for the celebration of World’s Teacher Day Celebration. I helped by
supervising the classes of Ms. Cauton in the school during practice. The Grades
7 and 8 chose to present a dance number while others prepared card with heart-
warming messages for their teachers.
►October 4, 2018- THURSDAY (The Celebration 101)
Teachers, learners, parents, and other visitors were gathered in the
covered court for the celebration.
The program was divided into three parts --- opening program where gift giving
and heart-warming messages were delivered, simple coronation, was and a lot of
parlor games were played outdoor. It was a happy day indeed, I also received
simple yet memorable, gifts and cards. Such activity is a stress reliever.

►October 5, 2018- FRIDAY (The Celebration 102)

This day, teachers went to Quirino Stadium to attend the Division World’s
Teachers Day Celebration.

● Week 2
►October 8, 2018- MONDAY (The Assignment)
I’m proud to say that I always went to school as early as 7:00, and made
sure to attend the Monday flag ceremony. This day aside from observation,
Ms. Cauton told me to get ready with my daily lesson plan for my teaching
after the Second Periodical Test. She gave me the topics for the Third
Quarter to be able to get ready. I learned that she uses daily lesson log (DLL)
since she is beyond three years of teaching and informed me that teachers
with one to two years’ of experience use the daily brief lesson plan. Ma’am
Cauton told me to prepare brief lesson plan. She gave me the topics for the
Third Quarter for MAPEH Grades 7 and 8. She told me to have my DLP for
next Friday.

►October 9, 2018- TUESDAY (The Reminders)

Ms. Cauton reminded me to do the work spiritually, begin with a prayer,
always be ready with the bible of teaching, be sure you’ve learned your
lessons well, start and end the class on time, be calm, set rules and be
consistent with those…She also told me to do weekly teaching of per
component, that I’ll first teach Music for five days, then Arts, Physical
Education, and Health.
This day we witnessed the presentations and judging (through rubrics)
of the students’ outputs.

►October 10, 2018- WEDNESDAY (PE and Health)

She started a lesson on Physical Education (Grade 7) and Health (for
Grade 8). I observed the participation or engagement of learners during
discussion the of the lesson and teacher served as a facilitator.

►October 11, 2018- THURSDAY (The Group Activity)

Daily routine was observed and done well. Ms. Cauton grouped the
class for an activity. They were given ten minutes to prepare and finalize
their output and were told to report/present afterwards. We (Ms. Cauton and
I) served again as the judges. She reminded the students to review for
Quarter 2 lessons for she will give a summative test on Monday.

►October 12, 2018- FRIDAY (ISPSC Time)

My schedule to report at ISPSC

summative test to the students. I helped in supervising the students during
their exam.

This day Ma’am Cauton gave the students the chance to complete their
lacking in the Second Quarter to complete (them) by giving special
activities.

►October 17, 2018- WEDNESDAY (Let’s Review)

Second Quarter examination was scheduled Thursday and Friday, so,
Ma’am Cauton set this day for review. She initiated it by asking a
question first to a certain student who will be the next to throw a question if
she answered correctly if not, the teacher will call for another student to
answer and the one who was not able to answer will remain standing until
he or she will not be able to answer a question.

Daily routine (prayer, attendance, rules, instructions) before the exam.
The chairs were arranged one seat apart. Silence… Checking (through
exchanging of papers) after one hour, then rechecking of own paper.

3:00-4:30 in the afternoon.

B. NOVEMBER
● Week 6
►November 5, 2018- MONDAY
(Nov. 1 and 2 are special non-working holidays)

This day was the start of Third Quarter and students were back to
classes after the one-week vacation and one-week sport activity. In order to
set up their minds well, my cooperating teacher told me not too start yet my
lesson so I let them talk about their short vacation, I asked them how they
spent it After which, I asked them to write their expectations from me and to
the lessons for the quarter and then, I called some to read what they’ve written
and gave feedback afterwards. I ended the class by asking them to enter the
class tomorrow with their name tags.

►November 6, 2018- TUESDAY

My daily lesson plans were checked by my cooperating teacher before
I execute them. She has many corrections but it’s okay because this is for
my improvement. Before I taught, I applied the daily routine or preliminaries
that I’ve observed with my cooperating teacher. I even changed the sitting
arrangement of the students. She of course, observed me this time. I taught
for the first time, with the topics ‘Musical Characteristics of Music
Representative from Mindanao’ for Grade 7 and Music of South Asia and the
Middle East’ for Grade 8. This day, I did the motivation, knowing of students’
prior knowledge, and connection of the previous activities to the lesson to be
discussed. Then I gave them individual assignment for tomorrow.

►November 7, 2018- WEDNESDAY

I started the class, as usual, on its scheduled time, After a short review
of yesterday’s activities, we learned about the musical characteristics
of representative music selections from Mindanao, after listening, in Grade 7
and style of music of South Asia and the Middle East; in Grade 8. Then
followed a short test to test their understanding of the discussed lesson.
And thank God, more than half of the class got seven and above scores over
15.
Discussing was so challenging today, I need to maintain the interest of
the students especially that there are unruly learners disturbing the flow of the
discussion.
I ended my classes this day by giving them an assignment about
musical instruments and other sound sources of representative music
selections from Mindanao for Grade 7; and songs and musical instruments
of South and Middle East Asia for Grade 8.

►November 8, 2018- THURSDAY

After the preliminary activities I gave the students time to prepare for
their group presentations. Perform music from Mindanao with own accompa-
niment for Grade 7 and perform music from South Asia and Middle East with
own accompaniment for Grade 8. While 7-Liberty was preparing (my 8:45
9:45 class), my cooperating teacher asked me if I prepared a rubric for the
students’ performance/ output. I worried because I didn’t know what it is
and how to do it. Good thing and so thankful to God, Ms. Cauton helped
me to rush a rubric for today’s performance. I encourage other groups to
give comments, asked questions, before I gave mine, and praise them every
after a report.

students to read and asked them to at least try to explain what they’ve read.
On my 1:00-2:00 p.m. class (8-Sampaguita), two students came 18
minutes late, just entered the room without any words, so, I intended to
greet them hoping to make them realize their mistake but they didn’t. So, I
just continued the discussion. After my Grade 8-Rose class at 3:00, my
cooperating teacher called me for a short conference. She reminded me of
giving attention to the late comers, to give them a disciplinary action to make
them realize their mistake.

education in the prevention of intentional injuries. Grade 10, on the other hand
was on components and steps in making a personal health career plan.
Video clip was used again to discuss the lessons. Then followed by the
processing questions and short quiz afterwards.

career orientation program. While for Grade 10 was to study the types of
intentional injuries and the ways to prevent and control it.

►February 12, 2019- TUESDAY (Contest)

The class was divided into four groups, given topics (about the assignment)
to discuss and report after.
This day, I conducted a contest (four groups) instead of the usual written
quiz. They were given question and 10 seconds to write their answer on the
board. The correct answer that the group got was the score of all the members,
and an additional point was given to the most disciplined group.

Though there was no JS Prom, Grades 9 and 10 had to practice simple
presentation for tomorrow’s activity. Ms Britos and I supervised their rehearsal.
Every section also prepared a Valentine Booth in their classrooms for the
contest. Winner will be given a cash prize.

►February 14, 2019- THURSDAY (Hearts Day)

I continued to supervise the practice of my students in the morning, and
helped in the preparation in the afternoon.

● Week 18
►February 18, 2019- MONDAY (The Preparation Day 1)
My cooperating teacher gave me this day and tomorrow to prepare for my
demonstration teaching on Wednesday. I made lesson plan (on the Nature of
Festival Dances) this day for my demo then submitted it to my two cooperating
teachers. They made corrections, so I edited and submit again to them.
Whenever I thought of the demonstration teaching, it made me nervous.
Every now and then I review the lesson plan to familiarize myself with the flow,
but I can’t concentrate.
►February 19, 2019- TUESDAY (The Preparation Day 2)
My nerve-wracking demonstration teaching was approaching. This day I
have to prepare my teaching materials. I was so worried at night so I again
reviewed the flow of delivering the lesson.

►February 20, 2019- WEDNESDAY (The Demonstration Teaching)

I still felt so nervous for I will be observed by brilliant people. So, I prayed
and tried to calm myself. I strived to feel relaxed. Afterwards, my feeling so
tense faded. Thank God!
After the demo, comes the post conference. I’m so thankful that though I
had mistakes and shortcomings in my teaching their comments are not
that hurtful to take.

►February 21, 2019- THURSDAY (Next Work)

I felt relieved now that my demonstration teaching was done.
Ms. Britos told me to prepare my Summative and Fourth Periodical Test
questions with TOS for the fourth quarter. With table of specification. I was not
yet so familiar or good enough to make exams with table of specification so I
asked her to explain how it was.

contains the necessary information about the students, like the name of their
parents or guardian and their contact number, address, Learners Reference
Number (LRN), birthday, age, and others.

teaching they need to write all the entries.

►March 29, 2019- WEDNESDAY (Still There)

I still went to school to help the teachers in their preparations and
practice for moving up and graduation ceremony last April 5.

The entire practice teaching was challenging, for I was able to deal people
with different personalities and do teaching strategies that would fit
them. But it went smooth (thank God) through the guidance and
assistance of my two great mentors ---- Ms. Britos and Ms. Cauton.
