THE CANADIAN TALE
Identities and Exchanges
Situation. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship
Canada (IRCC), the department of the Canadian federal
government in charge of immigration, has decided to
launch a new campaign to attract potential immigrants.
They want to promote the different provinces and territories of Canada through a series of videos
made by people who have recently immigrated from other countries, and who talk about the
opportunities Canada has to offer to whomever wants to settle there. You have recently moved to
an English-speaking area of Canada, so you decide to submit your video.
Final task. You will work individually for this final task. You must record a video of at least
2’30” in which you promote the Canadian province or territory you live in. The objective of this
video is to encourage potential immigrants to settle in your area. You must record yourself in front
of a camera — you have to speak directly to the viewers. However, you can use the format of your
choice, and your montage may include music, pictures, stock footage, etc., to make it attractive.
Marks. The mark of this final task will be based on the following points:
➢ the quality of your language (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, etc.);
➢ your skills as a speaker (tone, fluency, capacity to speak without reading a text, etc.);
➢ your knowledge of Canada and its society;
➢ the arguments and examples you develop in the video;
➢ your capacity to convince the viewer;
➢ the style and tone of the video (bonus points may be given if the work displays a
special effort in creativity);
➢ the length of the video.
Check list. To succeed in this final task, I must… (check when it is completed)

(Quebec cannot be chosen!) themselves and answer them

Don’t forget to start working on the project as soon as possible, and outside the classroom!
If you do it at the last minute, your work will not be of the best quality…
