Compliments Theorem : Compliments of the same or of equal angles are equal

Ex. Given: a and b are complimentary

b and c are complimentary
Prove : a = c
Proof:

STATEMENTS REASONS
1. a and b are complimentary 1. Given
b and c are complimentary
2. a + b=90º ; b + c = 90º 2. Definition of Complimentary Angles
3. a + b = b + c 3. Substitution
4. a = c 4. APE / SPE

Vertical Angles Theorem : When two lines intersect, any two vertical angles
formed are congruent
Ex. Given: a and c are vertical angles formed by lines n and m
Prove : a = c
Proof:

STATEMENTS REASONS
1. m and n are intersecting lines 1. Given
2. a and c are vertical angles 2. Given
3. a and b are supplementary: 3. Definition of linear pair
b and c are supplementary
4. a + b = 180º; b + c = 180º 4. Definition of Supplementary Angles
5. a + b = b + c 5. Substitution
6. a = c 6. APE / SPE

Equal Linear Pair Theorem : If two lines intersect forming a linear pair of equal
angles, then the lines are perpendicular
Ex. Given: AB intersects CD at O so that 1=2
Prove : AB ⊥ CD
Proof:

STATEMENTS REASONS
1. 1 + 2 = 180º 1. Linear Pair Theorem
2. 1 = 2 2. Given
3. 1 + 1 = 180º 3. Substitution
4. 21 = 180º 4. Simplify Algebraically
5. 1 = 90º 5. MPE/ DPE
6. AB ⊥ CD 6. Definition of Perpendicular Lines
