I. Objectives
 To be able to create the beam analysis simulation study
 To be able to display the deflection, shear, and bending moment diagrams
 To be able to determine the maximum vertical deflection of the beam and the
location of this deflection, the maximum shear, and the maximum bending moment
 To be able to analyze the results

II. Theory
(Research from reliable sources on the internet (indicate the references) and include here the
following: 1. Beams, 2. Static Analysis of Beams, and 3. Finite Element Simulation of a
Beam. You can Refer to this book: Practical Finite Element Simulations with SOLIDWORKS
2022.)

III. Materials and Instruments

 SolidWorks Software
 SolidWorks Flow Simulation 2012 Tutorial

IV. Procedure
1. Open SOLIDWORKS software.
2. Perform the analysis of beams via SOLIDWORKS Simulation by following the
instructions of the book entitled Practical Finite Element Simulations with
SOLIDWORKS 2022, from page 83 to page 121.
3. Document your activity by taking a time lapse video of yourself doing the activity.
Make sure that the screen activity is also clear in the recorded video.
4. Attach screenshots of the results in the “data and results” section, showing same
value with the reference book.
5. Make your work commendable. Please see the rubrics for the criteria in grading your
activity.
6. Upload your time lapse video in your Google drive and share your link to me in our
GC.
7. Attached in the appendix the screenshots of your time lapse video.

V. Data and Results

1.) Sketch of the geometric model,

2
2.) Structural model,

3
3.) Steps on how you create the simulation study,

4
5
6
7
8
4.) Beam deflection diagram,

5.) Shear force diagram,

6.) Shear force diagram for two selected segments of the beam, and

9
7.) Bending moment diagram.

VI. Conclusion
(Summarize the key findings and insights gained from the activity. Here are some of elements you
may include: Summary of Results, Interpretation of Results, Discussion of Errors or Limitations,
Implications and Applications, Conclusion Statement, and Recommendations. Remember to keep
your conclusion clear, concise, and focused on the main points of the objectives. Avoid
introducing new information or delving into tangential topics that are not directly relevant to the
activity.)

VII. Questions/ Problems

1. What is the value of the following: maximum vertical deflection, maximum shear force,
and maximum bending moment of the beam?

2. What is the maximum shear force in segment 2 and segment 5, respectively?

10
3. Is the beam safe from the applied loads?

VIII. References
(Follow APA format citations. APA website citations usually include the author, the publication
date, the title of the page or article, the website name, and the URL. If there is no author, start
the citation with the title of the article. If the page is likely to change over time, add a retrieval
date.)

IX. Appendix
(Attach pictures of you during the activity showing your face and the screen of the computer.
