C.D. TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
This extension proposal is intended for the Extension Program of the Graduate School specifically Language
Department. The said program focused on enhancing the skills of Secondary Teachers in the Schools Division of
Abra in the integration of technology in their teaching process.
The training is designed for the Secondary teachers which will help them explore the new instructional strategies
involving technology which can lead to more effective teaching and learning experiences. This training will also
broaden their perspective on different strategies they may employ during the teaching and learning process
especially that that Department of Education is already embracing the new trend of blended learning. Though
technology, teachers can automate routine tasks such as attendance tracking and assignment collection, freeing up
time for teachers to focus on instruction and student support during on-site and off-site learning scenarios.
1. 2. Rationale/Introduction (emphasize how the proposal addresses the attainment of MDGs other
government’s targets like the Ambisyon Natin 2040, GAD issues, ASIST Strategic targets, etc.)

It is well recognized that recently developed technology has a significant impact on the lives of everyone. The
educational system also has experienced tangible benefits with the use of technology. To continue the
development,
it is inevitable to utilize modern technological trends and tools in providing the task of English Language
Education.

The use of technology has facilitated and enhanced language acquisition. Technology allows for the customization
of classroom activities, which enhances language acquisition. Technology plays a more prominent role as a tool to
help teachers support their students’ language learning.

According to DepEd Order No. 016 s. 2023, the Department of education (DepEd) issues the enclosed Revised

Guidelines on the Implementation of the DepEd Computerization Program (DCP) which aims to provide public
school and DepEd offices with appropriate, quality, and equitable technologies that would enhance the teaching,
learning, governance and operation processes, practices, programs, and policies to meet the challenges of the
modern age.

In connection to this DO, DepEd has seen the main advantage of this technology was that the verbal interactions
between students would speed up learning a second language.

As presented in the result of the study of Bejarin et al (2022), teachers have a strong agreement that using
Technology has an impact on teaching English language. It is evident in the result that teachers appreciate
Technology as they have been using different Learning Management systems to improve their teaching, especially
since the pandemic has brought the trend of online teaching and learning. The blended and distance learning trend
remained even after pandemic as DepEd continually implement it as the need arises as the agency’s DO 037
provides for the implementation of MDL in the event of cancellation or suspension of classes due to natural
calamities, disasters and human-induced hazards “to ensure learning continuity and that learning competencies and
objectives are met.

Technology has a significant impact on effective English language instruction. It demonstrates how teachers use
Technology to make teaching and learning more engaging. The study also discovered that in today’s learning and
teaching environment as concluded by Bejarin et.al (2022).

One of the emerging tools with significant educational potential is TikTok. This platform, known for its
multimedia-rich and interactive content, has begun to play a role in enhancing language skills, particularly in
English. As presented in the study of Balmaceda (2023) it shows that TikTok can significantly impact users' oral
expression skills, promoting fluency, clarity, and articulation. Its ability to spread modern colloquialisms and
facilitate language blending makes it a valuable tool for linguistic development.

Incorporating TikTok into English language instruction can align with DepEd’s goals of ensuring learning
continuity and adapting to modern educational trends. By equipping teachers with strategies to effectively use
TikTok and other technological tools like Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams, the proposed activity aims to
create a more dynamic and inclusive learning environment. This approach will better prepare students for future
challenges, ensuring that English language instruction is not only relevant but also innovative, aligning with
national development goals and the evolving demands of education.

Similarly, questions from the participants will be answered in an open forum, which will be followed by the
outputs' presentation and critique. In addition, the Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST) will
collaborate with SDO-Abra to execute the created training in the designated cluster areas.

Technology in English Language Classrooms: Perspectives of the Learners and Teachers

Bejarin, Ma. Lourdes Q.1, Fetalvero, Elizabeth C.2, Yahin, Rommel J.3

ABSTRACT

Technology plays an indispensable part in English teaching and learning. The study sought to determine
the effects of technology on teaching and learning in an English language classroom. Quantitative
research method was employed, and the faculty and the first-year students of the College of Teacher
Education and Home Technology (CTEHT) at Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST)
Main Campus Lagangilang Abra for the School Year 2021- 2022 were the respondents. A survey
questionnaire was used to gather data. The study revealed that teachers and students use various
technologies in teaching and learning the English language; students strongly agree that technology and
LMS help learn English and make the class more interesting; teachers strongly agreed that technologies
are valuable instructional tools for teaching the English language and are very confident in using
Technology and LMS in delivering their lectures, and technology promotes the development of
communication skills.
It further bared that teachers and students have a significant agreement in indicators: (1) “Technology and
LMS promote the development of communication skills,” (7) “I feel comfortable in technology affiliated

SWIPE, SHARE, SPEAK: TIKTOK'S INFLUENCE ON ORAL EXPRESSION

Balmaceda, Lei Xandra Mei B.

ABSTRACT
This research explores the educational implications of TikTok, a popular multimedia platform, in
enhancing the oral expression skills of learners. This study delved into various dimensions of TikTok's
impact on oral expression, including articulation, fluency, clarity of speech, and the adoption of new
vocabularies and non-traditional communication patterns. Conducted among 10 2nd year Bachelor of
Secondary Education English program students from the Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology,
the research used interviews and focus group discussions to derive insights. By analyzing respondents'
testimonials, it emerged that participation in TikTok challenges and interactive content significantly
improved users' pronunciation, speech fluency, and clarity. Moreover, the platform's global reach exposed
users to diverse accents, linguistic patterns, and regional nuances. Findings also highlighted TikTok's role
in introducing users to contemporary colloquialisms, vocabularies, and unique communication styles.
Conclusively, beyond entertainment, TikTok serves as a potent medium for linguistic enrichment,
fostering a blend of global and local linguistic styles. Given its potential, recommendations include
utilizing TikTok in educational settings, conducting further research on its linguistic influence, and
