Revision 2
Cargo Handling Requirements:
Prepurging of Vessel’s Tanks: No
Pre-purge Oxygen Content: N/A
Pre-purge Dew Point: N/A
Blanket Required: See notes below.
Percent Oxygen in Nitrogen Blanket: See notes below
Vapor Space Purge: No
Loading Temperature Range: Ambient
Transit Temperature Range: Ambient
Discharge Temperature Range: Ambient
Maximum Heating Coil Temperature: Blanked Off
Adjacent Maximum Cargo Temperature: 35 deg C.
Regional Requirements:
Notes: Inhibitor; Par-tertuary Butyl Catechol (PTBC). Typically 10 – 20 ppm.
Notes: Nitrogen Blanket: Ref MSC/Circ 879, and MEPC/circ340. Nitrogen blankets are not required by regulation
in tanks of less than 3000m3. In tanks greater than 3000m3, a nitrogen blanket is required to be put in place. This
nitrogen blanket should be of such that the oxygen content is maintained at between >2% and <8%. Optimum oxygen
level is between 6% and 8%, this will be the standard required by Shell for nitrogen blanketing.
Notes: If Nitrogen blanket is in place and Carrier chooses to transship, carrier must reapply nitrogen blanket on the
cargo, both on the discharging and receiving ship, at their time, risk, and expense.
Notes: Venting Systems; IBC Code 15.13.6. Venting systems should be of a design that eliminates blockage from
polymer build-up. Venting systems should be of a type that can be checked periodically for adequacy of operation.
Interpretation; Internal obstructions should be avoided beyond the requirement for pressure vacuum valves and flame
screens which should be accessible for inspection and maintenance.

Revision 2
Tank Size Requirements:
The following conditions must be observed for tanks greater than 3000m3.
On completion of loading and taking product samples, the vapor space is checked to ensure that
the oxygen level is within acceptable levels as stated above.
During the voyage, the vapor space content is to be monitored and recorded twice a day, at least
eight hours apart.
Temperature and pressure readings of the cargo tanks are monitored and recorded twice a day, at
least eight hours apart.
In the case of tanks <3000m3. If a nitrogen blanket is put in place for quality reasons, the above
requirements for tanks >3000m3 will be applied.
Tank Acceptance Requirements:
All shore and ship cargo lines and tanks are to be presented clean (residual free), dry, odor free,
and rust free, with good gaskets and pressure tested heating coils. Heating coils to be blown clear
with nitrogen
Stainless Steel or Coated Tanks: Coated. Carrier to verify suitability of coating for
product.
Wall Wash Required: Yes, for benzene and benzene related products.
Wash Requirements: Hydrocarbons = Pass
Chlorides = 20 ppm
Acid test = <5
Previous products: Refer to Cefic document http://www.styrenemonomer.org
Notes: Tanks with previous cargo of benzene, or mixture containing benzene:- Shell Chemicals MTA must be
consulted before loading.
Notes: Tanks with Marineline coating cannot be used for styrene if benzene, or mixtures containing benzene, were one
of the prior three cargoes.
