Task 1: Inverting Amplifier (35%)
1.1 Fill the following table based on your measurements in step 9.
Setting Measurement Calculation
%
N R1[Ohm] R2[Ohm] V1[V] V2[V] Gain_theo Gain_exp
Error[%]
1 1000 5100 1 -5.17 -5.1 -5.17 1.37%
2 10000 10000 1 -1.01 -1 -1.01 1%
1.2 Put all results from step 10 here.
1.3 Based on the results that you got from step 10, does the amplifier work probably for all value
for the input voltage? why?
Answer: the amplifier works properly in our case. There is a small difference between
experimental and theoretical gain due to some experimental error. In this case we have not
reached saturation stage so it works properly until some point but after saturation point it
will no more amplify the input.
1.4 Take screen shot of your result in step 14 and put it

1.5 Describe the function of the inverting amplifier.
Answer: the function of an inverting amplifier is to amplify our input so that the output is in out of phase
with input voltage, that means the input and the output will have opposite sign. This amplifier works as a
current to voltage converter, used in less power-based applications. An inverting amplifier is used at the
output stage when any system is designed with different types of sensors.
1.6 What will be an inverting amplifier’s gain if R1 = 3KΩ and Rfb = 9KΩ? show your steps.

The gain G of an inverting amplifier is calculated from the resistors and the voltages as:
G =Vo\Vi
Since R1 and R2 are connected in series, I1 = I2
(Vi-Vn)/Ri = (Vn- Vo)/Rfb
Since Vn = 0 for an ideal Op-Amp,
Vi/Ri = -Vo/Rfb
Gain =|Vo/Vi| =| -Rfb/Ri|
Gain =| -9 KΩ/3 KΩ| = 3
1.7 What will be the phase difference between the input and output voltages of an
inverting amplifier for a sine wave signal applied to the input? |
Answer:
Since an inverting amplifier has a phase shift of 180°, The equation will have a (-)
sign along with the amplification constant.
That means if the input sine signal has an equation Vin(t) = Asin(t), then the output
signal will have a form
Vout(t) = -KAsin(t),

2.3 Take screen shot of your result in step 9 and put it here. Comment on your results.
Comment: Here it reaches saturation point so it is no more amplifying the input voltage so
after some point it will be horizontal. When the output voltage implied by the circuit
exceeds the possible range, the op-amp is said to saturate, and it just outputs its maximum
or minimum possible voltage instead.
2.4 Describe the function of the non - inverting amplifier.
Answer:
A non-inverting amplifier is used to amplify a signal without changing its polarity.
2.5 What will be a non- inverting amplifier’s gain if R1 = 3KΩ and Rfb = 9KΩ?
Answer:
The formula to find gain for a non-inverting amplifier is:

G = 1+1
G = 1+ 9 KΩ /3 KΩ
G = 4V/V
2.6 What will be the phase difference between the input and output voltages of a non-
inverting amplifier for a sine wave signal applied to the input?
