Isometric Drawing

Isometric drawings are a type of perspective drawing that represent three-dimensional objects by showing three of their sides at equal proportions, with main lines angled at 30, 90, and 150 degrees to the horizontal. They are useful in technical drawing and design, allowing for accurate representation without special scaling, although they do not reflect the apparent decrease in size due to distance. The document provides practical steps for creating isometric drawings in AutoCAD, emphasizing the importance of configuring the program and using specific commands for accurate representation.

Isometric drawings in autocad with measurements pdf

1. CONTENT The word isometric means "of equal measure" and comes from the prefix "isos" which means equal and the word metric which expresses or means "measure". Therefore, isometric refers to that three-dimensional drawing that has been made with the axes inclined forming an angle of 30° with the horizontal. One of the great advantages of isometric drawing is that any model can be drawn without using any special scale,
since the lines parallel to the axes are taken at their true magnitude. For example, when we draw a cube in isometric form, all its edges have the same length. Isometry is one of the forms of projection used in technical drawing that has the advantage of allowing representation to scale, and the disadvantage of not reflecting the apparent decrease in size - proportional to the distance - that the human eye perceives. An isometric drawing is
not an isometric perspective, since it is made without any reduction. This, like the isometric perspective, reveals the faces of the solid in the three sectors of the axes, with the same amplitude. AXES USED IN ISOMETRIC DRAWING The basis of isometric drawing is a system of three axes called "isometric axes" that represent the three edges of a cube, which form angles of 120° with each other. ISOMETRIC LINES These are lines
that are parallel to any of the three isometric axes. NON-ISOMETRIC LINES These are inclined lines along which true distances cannot be measured; these lines, when present in an isometric drawing, are neither along the axes nor parallel to them. Furthermore, non-isometric lines are drawn using other points belonging to isometric lines as reference points.

In design and technical drawing: In industrial design, a piece is represented from different points of view, perpendicular to the natural coordinate axes. A piece with mechanical movement generally has shapes with axes of symmetry or flat faces. Such axes, or the edges of the faces, allow us to define an orthogonal projection. An isometric perspective of the part can easily be drawn from such views, allowing for a better understanding of
the object's shape. In architecture: Eugene Viollet-le-Duc used this system in many of his building drawings, avoiding emphasizing the importance of some volumes over others and becoming independent of the observer's point of view. In video games: A certain number of video games put their characters into action using an isometric perspective point of view, or rather, in common jargon, "3/4 perspective". From a practical point of
view, this allows graphic elements to be moved without changing their size, an inevitable limitation for computers with low graphic capabilities. The progressive increase in the graphic capabilities of computers has made possible the increasingly widespread use of more realistic projection systems, based on the perspective naturally perceived by the human eye: conic perspective.
Mathematical aspects: Since isometric perspective is a geometric projection on a plane according to an axis perpendicular to it, its characteristics and relationships can be calculated analytically using trigonometry. Reduction factor on the axes. Considering the edge of a cube that goes from the origin to the point (0,0,1), if its intersection with the projection plane defines an angle α, the projection will have a length equivalent to the cosine
of α. Coordinate transformation. Cartesian coordinate transformation is used to calculate views from point coordinates, for example in the case of a video game, or 3D simulation. Assuming a space provided with a direct orthonormal basis. The projection Pse is carried out according to the component vector (1,1,1), that is, the vector , according to the plane represented by that same vector. Isometric drawings are very common in the
drawing area, these are usually requested in a plan almost obligatorily as an alternative view and not to mention in the representation of pipes and lines. That is why here we will see how to make an isometric drawing in a practical way so that you can do it without any problem. The first thing to do is to change the properties of the pointer and we do that by Right Clicking on the drawing status bar and selecting Settings (See Figure 1).
Figure 1 The Drafting Settings window will open immediately, in which we will have to position ourselves on the Snap and Grid tab and in the Snap Type area we will select Isometric Snap and click OK (See Figure 2). Figure 2 Now we have the pointer ready to work in isometric (See Figure 3). From here we can draw any object in isometric using ORTHO (F8). Figure 3 Next I will proceed to draw a cube with a polyline in a box as
seen in Figure 4 and then I will proceed to change the pointer axes (Isoplanes) to form the front part of a cube with the F5 button, I will draw the polyline to close the face (See Figure 5). Figure 4 Figure 5 In the same way I will change the isoplane (F5) once again to complete the cube (See Figure 6) and thus have our first figure. Figure 6 now we will proceed to make a cylinder with an Ellipse marking the center and end (See Figure 7).
Figure 7 After selecting Ellipse we select Isocircle (See Figure 8) and specify the center and radius of the ellipse. Figure 8 With the Ellipse already made, we will proceed to draw two lines in the quadrants of the isocircle that we drew (See Figure 9). And finally we just copy the first isocircle drawn and paste it at the top at the end of the lines, cutting out the lower isocircle from the lines (See Figure 10).
Figure 9 Figure 10 Now we will proceed to make a pyramid, we will start by drawing a box as shown in figure 11. Figure 11 Next we will have to position ourselves in the center of the box drawing a line to the center and from there changing the isoplane (F5) we will draw a line upwards (tip of the pyramid) as shown in figure 12. Figure 12 Next we will proceed to join each side of the square to the tip of the pyramid as shown in figure
13. Figure 13 Finally, we erase the lines that we drew in the center of the box, the one we used as a height line (tip of the pyramid) and cut out the base box that we drew first so that it looks as it appears in figure 14. Figure 14 With these steps you can start drawing isometrically in AutoCAD and make your drawings easily. It is important to say that the measurements you give to isometric objects play a fundamental role in the drawing
since the more real the measurements are, the better the drawing of the piece or object will be. Below is a video tutorial in which you can see the procedure step by step.

If you have any comments, feel free to leave them here…Until next time. 2. ABSTRACT Isometric drawings are a type of perspective drawing, in which an object is represented in 3 dimensions, showing 3 of its sides. The main characteristic of isometrics is that their 3 main faces appear deformed in the same proportion.

In addition, the main lines or axes of the object are directed at angles of 30, 90 and 150 degrees with respect to the horizontal. For these reasons, isometric drawing is fast, simple and effective when it comes to giving an idea of the appearance of the object we are designing. Since this is a descriptive and illustrative drawing, it is not customary to draw hidden lines, axes or dimensions.

Isometrics are a special case of perspective drawings, known as axonometric projections, obtained when the observer is placed inclined with respect to the main faces of the object (when the observer is placed inclined with respect to the main axes or when the object is placed inclined inside the glass box), in such a way that the lines, main planes and angles of the object appear deformed. The word isometric comes from the roots iso
which means equal and metric which means measure. An isometric drawing is characterized by the fact that its main lines have the same measurement as the real object, meaning that the deformation of the main lines is the same. 3. SUMMARY Isometric drawings They are a type of perspective drawing, in which it tries to represent an object in 3 dimensions, showing 3 of their faces. The main feature of isometrics is that its 3 main faces
appear deformed in the same proportion. Besides lines or major target object at angles 30, 90 and 150 degrees to the horizontal. For these reasons the isometric drawing is fast, simple and effective when it comes to giving an idea of the object will look like we are designing. As a descriptive and illustrative drawing, it is not usually drawn the phantom, axes or limited. Isometric are a special case of perspective drawings, known as
axonometric projections, obtained when the observer is placed in the direction inclined with respect to the main faces of the object (as an observer to the main axis is located inclined or when the object It is inclined placed inside the glass case), so that the lines, planes and angles of the main object appear deformed. The word isometric comes from roots iso means equal and metric measurement means. An isometric drawing is to feature
its main lines are the same as the real thing, that is, the deformation of the main lines is the same.
4. RECOMMENDATIONS To draw an isometric drawing in AutoCAD you must first configure the program so that you can draw. To achieve a perfect drawing in AutoCAD, it is recommended to draw everything and then crop the areas that are not visible in the Isometric perspective.

GLOSSARY In plane geometry transformations, isometry modifies only the position of the figure on the plane, leaving all other characteristics unchanged: shape, dimensions, angles, perimeter, area, etc. The fundamental isometrics are of four types: translation, rotation, central symmetry and axial symmetry.
An isometry is direct if it is obtained only through a translation and a rotation, and is called indirect if translations or rotations with axial symmetry are used. Direct isometry preserves the clockwise or counterclockwise arrangement of the vertices, while indirect isometry reverses them. An isometry is also called a rigid transformation. Do not confuse the term isometry with isomerism. In orthogonal axonometry, isometry is that
perspective whose three axes (x, y, z) form the same angle with each other, 120º. In space the three axes also form the same angle with respect to the projection plane. The reduction coefficient is always 0.816 for all three axles. If the reduction coefficient is not used, it is usually called an “isometric drawing”. It is also called isometric, monometric or isonometric. 7.
LINKOGRAPHY VIDEO ON THE TOPIC by ASIDEK | Jun 8, 2021 | news Accurately conveying the content of a design and its creation is crucial to working optimally. If you can add a fun component, isometric drawing can be a good starting point for demonstrating professional skills. In this article we will discover how to create isometric drawings in AutoCAD. An isometric drawing is the graphical representation of a three-
dimensional geometric object reduced to two dimensions through a parallel projection based on three axes. In this way, it maintains its proportions in each of the three directions of space: height, width and length. In other words, a 2D isometric drawing, which can be created from an isometric projection, is a flat representation of a 3D isometric projection. This drawing method provides a quick way to create an isometric view of a simple
design. Until CAD came along, isometric drawings were created with the set square (or drawing arm) and the 30-60-90 triangle. However, it is possible to achieve the same result in AutoCAD. Here are the steps. Activating Isodraft Mode Before you start drawing, you need to learn how to activate Isodraft, change drawing planes and configure everything to your liking. There are two methods to activate it: Type it in the command line
and choose any of the Isoplane options to switch from orthographic to isometric drawing. Click the Isodraft icon in the status bar to toggle it on or off. Click on the small down arrow just to the right of it to choose iIsoplane mode.
When you activate Isodraft, the cursor will change from orthographic to the chosen isoplane. It can be set to the left (30 and 150 degree axes), to the right (30 and 90 degree axes), or to the top (30 and 150 degree axes). If enabled, the grid will also switch to the configured isoplane. Finally, Orthomode will also be modified to fit its current isoplane. To save time, once in Isodraft mode, it is possible to quickly change the isoplane by
pressing Ctrl-E, or F5 on the keyboard.
Before you start drawing, it is important to take into account some considerations that come from Autodesk.
In orthographic drawing you have probably become accustomed to using the Rectangle command instead of drawing four Line or Polyline segments. In Isodraft mode, however, the Rectangle command will not switch to Isometric and draw on the current isoplane, but will continue to draw the rectangle as if it were still in Orthographic mode. Therefore, we advise against its use.
Also, it is not advisable to use the Circle and Arc commands. If you need them in your isometric drawing, you will need to use the Ellipse command. When in Isodraft mode, accessing Ellipse from the command line will give you the extra option of Isocircle. You must select it from the command line or from the Dynamic Input dropdown menu to force it to become a true isometric ellipse, according to the current isoplane. Ultimately,
the world of isometry in AutoCAD is simple if you establish that you are dealing with 2D or 3D. One option is simply a method of viewing 3D models, and the other refers to the tools, commands, and even tricks used to produce a 2D representation of a 3D object. What's New in AutoCAD 2023 Finally, it should be noted that in the new AutoCAD 2023, work has been done on the ability to view, edit, and share designs, and add revision
marks on any device, which facilitates collaboration between different teams and the possibility of sharing workflows more easily.
