HSD Basic

The document outlines a workshop on High-Speed Digital (HSD) signal characteristics and the importance of signal integrity (SI) in electronics. It covers useful SI simulation techniques such as S-parameter, TDR, and EYE diagrams, and introduces the Controlled Impedance Line Designer (CILD) for designing transmission lines. The workshop emphasizes the need for analyzing and mitigating signal degradation effects to ensure system reliability.

Introduction to Signal Integrity
- Signal integrity, or SI, is a set of measures of the quality of
an electrical signal. At high bit rates and over longer
distances or through various mediums, various effects can
degrade the electrical signal to the point where errors
occur and the system or device fails. Signal integrity
engineering is the task of analyzing and mitigating these
effects.
- Signal integrity engineering is an important activity at all
levels of electronics packaging and assembly, from
internal connections of an integrated circuit (IC), through
the package, the printed circuit board (PCB), the
backplane, and intersystem connections.

Summary
- This workshop introduces three HSD important
characteristics, and goes over when and where Signal
Integrity take parts to overcome these effects.
- Then we practice three useful SI simulation techniques,
including S-parameter, TDR, and EYE simulation.
- Finally, CILD is introduced to design transmission lines,
with the help of optimization, sweep, and statistical
method.
