Unit 3
Monitoring Work-Based Training

INTRODUCTION

Monitoring the progress of the trainees in their training must be observed to ensure
that they will be competent of the particular qualification at the end of the training. Also,
it is important to indicate the training facilities: from the venue to the different tools and
equipment to be used during the training. In addition, feedback plays an important role
in the work-based training because it will be an avenue for the trainer and the trainee to
talk for recommendation and improvement for all the skills acquired.

This unit focuses on the different training facilities used in a training and the
different monitoring tools being employed to check the progress of the trainees in the
duration of the training

Learning Outcomes: Training
At the end of the lesson, the students must have:
o identified the facilities for training based on trainees’ training
requirements; and
o classify training facilities.

TRAINING FACILITIES

In order that a trainee will be competent in a particular qualification, he must

possess all the competencies and applied all the knowledge, skills, and attitude as he
performs the activities. However, these skills and knowledge will not be met from mere
discussion only unless the appropriate equipment, materials, or facilities are provided.
Thus, the preparation of training facilities in a work-based training is very important.

For work-based training conducted within the industry/company, it is assumed that

the necessary equipment and machineries are already available. The trainer must
check all of these equipment and that are available to used before the deployment of
the trainee. It is also important to provide the trainee additional materials; books,
pamphlets, diagrams, models, that may help develop their knowledge and skills more
quickly.

If the work-based training shall be conducted within the training center/educational

institution, then it is even more important to build correct range of resources. At this
point, the trainer must consider the content of the training regulation to take a look the
different learning tools, materials and equipment to use by the trainee. Also, the training
facilities must be put in consideration also which is stipulated in the training regulation of
a particular qualification.

Note: The trainers must identify from the list the requires tools, equipment and materials; and
facilities that the trainees will use to attain the required competency/ies based on the
training plan. The trainer should check with the person concerned the availability of
these resources before starting the training.
