Unit 2 - Application Software

Microsoft PowerPoint is a widely used slide design software included in the Microsoft Office suite, created by Robert Gaskin and Dennis Austin in 1987. It allows users to create dynamic presentations using various multimedia elements and features an intuitive interface, though it has limitations such as lack of an auto-save feature and issues with large file sizes. Despite the emergence of modern alternatives, PowerPoint remains popular due to its user-friendly design and diverse functionalities.

Microsoft PowerPoint is the most basic and familiar slide design software for
users and it’s also my favorite application software. Although there are many
new modern slide design software and tools nowadays, PowerPoint is still
trusted and used because of its friendly design, diverse features, and ease of
use. This application is a program that is included in the Microsoft Office suite.
It allows users to create dynamic slides using elements like graphics, videos,
photographs, and charts, … to make a presentation more attractive and
interesting in class or meetings. The program was created by Robert Gaskin
and Dennis Austin at a software company named Forethought, Inc. It was first
introduced in 1987 and gradually, with each version, the program became
more and more creative and interactive, offering various features to the users.
It is compatible with most operating systems and devices, especially it is free
for anyone else who uses it. PowerPoint provides users with lots of optional
templates, to use it we just need to click and type what we want to show. In
addition, this presentation program integrates AI and has a privacy protection
feature. For example, we now can adjust our presentations in Read-Only Mode
to prevent other users retouch them. Besides its benefits, this app also has
some limitations. If the computer has a problem and suddenly restarts, the file
we are working on will disappear because it doesn’t have a save-automatically
feature. Another disadvantage is that complex designs can make files large and
make it difficult to share. In the future, if it can fix these limitations, I think it
will be the best slide application software in the market.
