3. Some nouns are always singular, although
they end with an “s”. These nouns go with the
singular form of the verb and they take “it” as
a pronoun substitute (ex. Politics, economics,
linguistics, mathematics, billiards)
Ex. Politics is a dirty game.
Billiards is a fun game.

4. Another group of nouns do not have a singular
form. The nouns in this group are always plural
(ex. Trousers, clothes, scissors, tweezers)
These nouns go with the plural form of the verb
and take “they, them” as pronouns substitutes.
Ex. My trousers are dirty. I need to clean ……….
(they, them).

5. Few other nouns end with an “s”. These
nouns can be singular or plural according to
the context (ex. Ethics, Oats, Measles,
Mumps)
Ex. Measles is a contagious disease
(singular)(sickness)
Have you ever had them, the measles
(Plural)(the red spots on the skin)
Ex. Ethics is a chanllenging subject.
(Singular)(A philosophic discipline)
His ethics are beyond reproach
(Plural)(beliefs and actions)
