NOTES : Nancy #2

General Notes:

 Emotionless with delivery of lines. Monotone/ Plain reading like delivery.

 Doesn’t use set/ Table/ Body enough.
 Not comfortable with lines yet. ( Pauses and Emphasis in wrong areas
and lack of Emphasis in other areas.)
 Ms. Hadley Commentary: Needs to work on her facial expressions and
dramatize her facial expressions, Body language and delivery on
sarcastic emotions and when talking towards audience.
 These Notes are very detailed so Wednesday should show visible
improvement.

Lines and Scenes:

Notes : CERTAIN LINES WERE CUT.

Lights On I ( after Jennifer and John)

- Everyone is walking past Nancy. While everyone walks past
Nancy, Nancy is eagerly looking around with hope in her eyes
reaching her hand for a handshake but is consistently getting
rejected or straight up ignored. Once everyone is sat Nancy
looks around and falls into her seat with a huge sigh, showing
visible embarrassment and or looking hurt (frowning/Back-
slouched or trying to hide her face.). Lights go off.
(Act how you would if your crush laughed in your face if you
asked them out or how you would feel if you maybe tripped so
bad and the whole school laughed for the moment where
everyone is sitting. Just find a really embarrassing memory and
use it.)

Lights On II ( after Clown and Laura.)

- Same as Lights on scene I however this time Nancy eager and
now Nancy is so humbled, she cannot have that again. Her
body language and Facial expression is forceful and aggressive
trying to pull people and forcefully nudge (by blocking people’s
ways, Pulling/grabbing onto people(Sean specifically) or just
pointing at her table while giving the other date contestants a
well I don’t know what the term is called but do you know
when people command with a teeth smile. If not, I’ll show you
and example Tuesday. Once everyone is sat Nancy is seen
sulking.

Waiter Scene I [N’s Notes(after Mary and John.)]

NANCY. (muttering to herself)

Well, this is just perfect. (Have a Massive Eyeroll[ use you head
with your eyes ] and throw your arms.) Why did I even bother
coming here? (Your night is ruined so pretend you just keep getting
20% in tests and now you like why am I still in this dumb subject or
something similar to that.). Meet you people Dad said(Mock a
deep voice and make air quotes have the air quotes really massive
like your grabbing the air. Meet/New/ PEOPLE Dad said. [/-
represents a break/ pause so don’t have a long pause on dad said
instead drag out the dad said.] Wrinkle you face a lot.), It can’t be
as bad as dating John / they said. ( A little louder then dad said
but not shouting, Mock like a jock/ Bryce type of voice. By the they
said you are irritated and noticeably frustrated.)

NANCY. Oh, I’m good, thanks(Very awkward and

uncomfortable but trying to be polite). But You can,/
uh,/(trying to think fast.) just bring the bill(Brief Pause…
increasingly getting more uncomfortable and louder)/the bell
or whatever it is- (loudest and most disgusted face ever
gesturing him away.),when you’re done.
NANCY. (cutting him off)
No. Just, no.(Dragging the no like NOooooOOOoOoah and using
your hands and just very very disgusted.) No thanks.

Lights on III [N’s Notes(after John and Pat.)]

- Before this scene, Nancy has been falling asleep and
now she fast asleep, very brief light shine on her but
Nancy should snore as loud as possible.

Clown AND Nancy.

- Scene has been shortened FOCUS on line in black to see
changes even small changes eg removals of “yeah”

NANCY. Yeah,/ I’m here to “facilitate,”(in a oh brother tone,

EMPHASIS THOSE AIR QUOTES) sure. You know(pointing
something out tone), just watching people pretend to like each
other for ten minutes(I don’t want to be here/ extremely bored
tone even tap the table). Meanwhile, I’m sitting over here
(circle table with you arms) and NOONE WANTS TO
PRETEND TO LIKE ME, IM NOT EVEN WORTH A FAKE
SMILE.(increase in anger in tone and progressively get loud after
meanwhile throw your hands around.)

NANCY. Wait a minute... you mean she doesn’t even notice

you’re here? You dressed up like a clown for her and she still
can’t be bothered?(Laughing at Clown while speaking.)
NANCY. Sounds like you’re really living the dream here,
huh( Sacrastic and so uninterested even a little giggle at this
said women. )? You know, I was kinda hoping someone
would see me tonight(like your pointing it out, you were
optimistic.), but spoiler alert noo! it’s just me, Me, and
GUESS WHAT ME! (frustrated.)
NANCY. Oh, yeah, a flower.(confused on to do with rose.)
That’s totally gonna solve my problems.(Snappy/ Sarcastic
even roll your eyes again.) You’re right though — I’ve been
waiting around here for someone to notice me. Guess I’ll just
start waving this around, hoping someone will take pity on me
and sit down.
NANCY. Yeah maybe I am just... waiting(realising). Waiting
for someone to make the first move, for someone to care. But
like... what do I get out of it?

NANCY. YOU GOT THAT RIGHT SISTER! (walking off

after and talking to herself afterwards) Who knew I'd end up
having a heart-to-heart with a clown?
This... this is why I don’t do speed dating(like you just made a
punch line). But hey, sometimes the best conversations are the
ones you least expect.
(winking at the audience.)
Waiter Scene II [N’s Notes(after Sean and Laura II.)]
- Improv scene needs little no work.
