Theorems

The document outlines key circle theorems including the relationships between angles at the center and circumference, properties of cyclic quadrilaterals, and the behavior of tangents. It explains that angles at the center are double those at the circumference, angles on the same arc are equal, and opposite angles in cyclic quadrilaterals sum to 180º. Additionally, it states that tangents are perpendicular to radii at contact points and provides various angle relationships involving tangents and chords.

Circle Theorems

1) Angle at the centre

The angle at the centre is twice the angle at
the circumference (standing on the same arc).
2) Angles on the same arc
Angles at the circumference standing on
the same arc are equal.
3) Angles in a semicircle
Angles at the circumference standing on
a diameter are equal to 90º.
4) Cyclic quadrilaterals
A quadrilateral whose 4 vertices lie on the
circumference of a circle is called a
cyclic quadrilateral.
Opposite angles of a cyclic quadrilateral
add up to 180º.
5) Tangents to a circle
A tangent to a circle is always perpendicular
to a radius at the point of contact (90º angle).
Two tangents drawn from the same point are
equal in length.
6) Alternate segment
The angle between a tangent and a chord is
equal to any angle made by that chord in the
alternate segment.
A + C = 180º
B + D = 180º
x = 90º
TA = TB
x = 62 ÷ 2 = 31º
x = y = 21º
x = 90º
x = 180 – 100 = 80º
y = 180 – 85 = 95º
y = 360 – 90 – 90 – 30 = 150º
y = 180 – 60 – 90 = 30º
x = 25º
y = 72º
