Transcripts

LISTENING 1 - TRANSCRIPT

My name is Alejandro Mondrian. I’m a new student at this university. It’s my first year. I’m originally
from Osorno in the South of Chile.

I think my family is typical in some ways, and in other ways it’s different. I live with my mom and
two sisters. I don’t have any brothers, and my parents are divorced. My father lives in Iquique. I
usually visit him there once a year.

Besides my family, I have some good friends. I met some friends in my neighborhood and some at
school. My friends and I have similar interests. We like animals, specifically dogs a lot. I help at a
home for abandoned dogs. I really love helping them. Those dogs are so nice.

I also like trekking, especially in the region near Osorno, where there are some great places to
explore. In the summer, when I visited my dad in Iquique, I went trekking in the desert looking for
petroglyphs. There are a lot of them in the Pampa del Tamarugal. I think they are really fascinating,
and visiting these petroglyphs is a hobby for me now.

In my free time, I like to work on my podcast. I have a podcast that focuses on my two interests:
dogs and trekking.

LISTENING 2 - TRANSCRIPT

Alejandro: Hi, I’m Alejandro. I’m from Osorno. What’s your name?

Danitza: Hi, I’m Danitza and I’m from Santiago, La Florida actually. I’ve lived here all my life. What’s
your name?

Jorge: I’m Jorge and I live in Melipilla.

Alejandro: So, Jorge, you don’t live in Santiago?

Jorge: No, I don’t, but I’m going to try to rent a room near campus starting next week. What about
you?

Alejandro: My aunt and uncle live in San Bernardo so I’m going to live with them.

Jorge: I see. Danitza, what’s your major?

Danitza: I’m in the Arts faculty studying sound engineering. How about you?

Jorge: I’m going to start with the Bachillerato program. I knew I wanted to study at university, but I
just couldn’t decide which program I was most interested in.

Alejandro: I thought about doing that, but then I decided to go with journalism. What about you
Danitza? Why did you decide on sound engineering?

Danitza: I love music. I’ve been playing guitar since I was a kid and I’ve even learned to play piano
and flute. During high school I was in a band and we started writing songs and recording. So,
studying sound engineering is a logical step.

Jorge: Wow! Can I find your music on YouTube?

Danitza: Yeah, I’ll send you a WhatsApp with a link to my channel. What about you Alejandro, why
did you decide to study journalism?

Alejandro: Well, in my house we always have the radio on. So, even when I was young I was
surrounded by news. In high school I once had to do a podcast for a group assignment and it was
so much fun that we continued creating episodes.
