Experiment 7

The document outlines Experiment 7 for determining the mixture of Sodium Carbonate (Na2CO3) and Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) using Hydrochloric acid (HCl). It includes the chemical equations involved, detailed procedures for titration using two different indicators, and calculations for normality and strength of the compounds. The experiment aims to identify the concentrations of the two sodium compounds in a mixture.

Experiment 7
Determination of a mixture of Sodium Carbonate (Na2CO3) and
Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) by Hydrochloric acid (HCl) (0.1 N)

Equation:

HCl + Na 2CO 3 NaHCO3 + NaCl

HCl + NaHCO3 NaCl + CO 2 + H 2O

am
2HCl + Na2CO 3 2NaCl + CO 2 + H 2O

Procedure:
as

1- In case of Ph.Ph.
R

1- Fill the burette with HCl until zero mark.

2- Transfer 10 ml of mixture using pipette to the conical flask.
ia

3- Add 2 drops of Ph. Ph and swirl to mix well. A pink color will appear.
