Some people think that competition at work, at school and in daily life is a
good thing. Others believe that we should try to cooperate more, rather
than competing against each other.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion?
Some favour rivalry in the workplace, within the schooling system and in daily life
whereas (while) others give precedence to cooperation (collaboration) over (as
opposed to) competition. From my standpoint, although both perspectives have
(offer) benefits, I think highly of cooperation.
On the one hand, competition in academic life helps students get the best
grades, submit the best assignments and improve their academic achievement.
Students who do not have the will to work hard on their own can achieve
significant success when they compete with their peers. For instance (to
illustrate, to exemplify), art schools evaluate students on the basis of their
performances, which necessarily gives rise to competition. Also, professors in
academia especially encourage (foster) this competitive environment because
(on the grounds that) they push students to unleash their potential. Apart from
that, competition is also an integral and inevitable part of business life.
Companies put their employees in a competitive environment in order to do their
best by offering promotions, bonuses or other rewards, thereby boosting
profitability.
On the other hand, preferring to cooperate rather than compete will support
people to work in harmony with each other more than ever. Collaboration in
school life will, no doubt, enable students to gain insight into the nuances of
teamwork and exchange information. This will pave the way for team
membership and acting on consensus, thus creating a harmonious ambiance in
the workplace. Because brainstorming and reaching a common idea will bring the
team to a much better point in the business life. Moreover, a study conducted at
Michigan University suggests that those who are benevolent, cooperative and
helpful are admired and respected by others, which is another appealing aspect
of this perspective.
In conclusion, comparing two opposing views as to collaboration versus
cooperation, to my way of thinking, the former is a much more powerful tool than
the latter on the grounds of teamwork as well as exchange of information and
experience. Also, relevant studies reveal the merits of cooperation, which
therefore should be encouraged more at school, work and in daily life.
