GAT General Test - Essential Math Formulas

Arithmetic & Number Properties

- Percent = (Part / Whole) - 100

- Increase: Final = Original - (1 + r/100)

- Decrease: Final = Original - (1 - r/100)

- Ratio: a : b = a/b

- Proportion: a/b = c/d - ad = bc

- Average = Sum of items / Number of items

- Speed = Distance / Time

- Distance = Speed - Time

- Time = Distance / Speed

- Average Speed = (2xy)/(x + y) (if equal distances)

- Simple Interest = (P - R - T) / 100

- Compound Interest = P(1 + R/100)^T - P

Algebra

- (a + b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2

- (a - b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2

- a^2 - b^2 = (a - b)(a + b)

- Quadratic Formula: x = [-b - -(b- - 4ac)] / 2a

- a^m - a^n = a^(m+n)

- a^m / a^n = a^(m-n)

- (a^m)^n = a^(mn)

- a^0 = 1

- a^-n = 1/a^n

Geometry

- Area of triangle = 1/2 - base - height

- Area of equilateral triangle = (-3 / 4) - a^2

- Pythagorean Theorem: a- + b- = c-

- Circumference of circle = 2-r

- Area of circle = -r-

- Area of rectangle = length - width

- Area of square = side-

- Perimeter = sum of all sides

Data Interpretation

- Mean = Sum / Count

- Median = Middle value (after sorting)

- Mode = Most frequent value

- Probability = Favorable outcomes / Total outcomes

Miscellaneous

- n! = n - (n-1) - ... - 1

- nPr = n! / (n-r)!

- nCr = n! / [r!(n-r)!]

- LCM - HCF = Product of two numbers
