Job Overview:
The Chief Security Officer (CSO) for a Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) will oversee the development,
implementation, and management of comprehensive security programs across all locations. The CSO is
responsible for ensuring the safety of employees, customers, assets, and sensitive company information. The
role will also involve managing both physical and cybersecurity (in conjunction with the IT department)
risks, as well as responding to emergency situations effectively and efficiently.
The CSO will work closely with senior leadership, store managers, and external law enforcement agencies to
maintain a safe and secure environment for both front-of-house and back-of-house operations. This individual
will develop and execute security policies, procedures, and training programs to mitigate risks, safeguard
operational assets, and support the business’s long-term growth.
This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership capabilities who can ensure the safety of
employees, customers, and the brand while navigating both physical and digital threats in a fast-paced
restaurant environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Security Strategy and Planning:
Develop and implement a comprehensive security strategy for the organization, addressing all forms
of the business risks.
Identify vulnerabilities across the restaurant chain, including locations, logistics, supply chain, and
digital infrastructure.
Prepare risk management frameworks to handle security-related incidents and emergencies.
2. Physical Security Management:
Oversee the design and implementation of security systems at all restaurant locations (e.g.,
surveillance cameras, alarms, access control).
Ensure proper safety measures are in place to prevent theft, vandalism, and damage to company
property.
Implement protocols for cash handling, loss prevention, and inventory control.
Monitor and assess store-level security performance, providing feedback to management to improve
operations.
3. Cybersecurity Oversight:
Work with the IT department to ensure the protection of all related organization & stakeholder’s
assets and data
Monitor for potential cyber threats and respond swiftly to prevent breaches.
4. Employee and Customer Safety:
Develop and enforce safety protocols for employees, including workplace safety and evacuation
plans in the case of emergencies/.
Ensure customers are protected from harm during their visit, particularly in areas with high foot
traffic or potential safety risks (e.g., parking lots, drive-thru areas).
Conduct regular safety drills and training sessions for all employees across locations.
5. Incident Response and Crisis Management:
Serve as the primary point of contact during security-related emergencies, such as break-ins, fires, or
natural disasters.
Investigate incidents of theft, fraud, or other criminal activities, and collaborate with law
enforcement when necessary.
Implement and manage an effective crisis communication plan, ensuring quick and accurate
dissemination of information during an emergency.
6. Compliance and Regulations:
Ensure the company’s security practices align with local, state, and federal regulations.
Monitor and stay updated on changing industry standards, safety regulations, and legal compliance
requirements.
Lead audits and inspections of security policies, systems, and practices to ensure compliance with
security standards.
7. Team Leadership and Training:
Manage a team of security professionals, ensuring proper training and professional development.
Provide security awareness training to all employees, ensuring that they are aware of potential
threats and know how to respond to different scenarios.
Promote a culture of security and vigilance across the entire organization.
8. Collaboration and Reporting:
Collaborate with relevant managers and other executives to align security initiatives with business
goals.
Prepare regular security reports for senior leadership, detailing incident responses, trends, and areas
for improvement.
Work with relevant security organizations and providers to ensure that security standards are met
across all locations.
9. Budget and Resource Management:
Develop and manage the security department’s budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
Source and manage security technology, equipment, and external security vendors or contractors.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Business Administration, or related
field (Master’s degree & relevant security certifications will be an advantage).
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in security management, with at least 5 years in a senior
leadership role, preferably in the restaurant or retail industry.
Strong experience in both physical and cybersecurity management.
Experience in risk management and loss prevention strategies, particularly in a multi-location
business environment.
Skills and Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of security operations, crisis management, and emergency response.
Familiarity with relevant security technologies, including surveillance systems, access control, and
intrusion detection.
Strong understanding of cybersecurity practices, particularly with regard to POS systems, digital
payment methods, and data protection will be an advantage.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to develop and implement effective training programs for diverse employee groups.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make decisions under pressure.
Working Conditions:
This position may require travel to various restaurant locations.
Must be available for emergency situations outside of regular business hours.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
