AVEVA PRO/II Simulation Silent Install
The AVEVATM PRO/IITM Simulation 2024 silent install does not install its dependencies. Therefore, you must
make sure that these dependencies are installed before doing the silent install of AVEVA PRO/II Simulation. You
can use the following commands to silently install the AVEVA PRO/II Simulation dependencies and AVEVA PRO/II
Simulation.
Note: The [AVEVAPROIISimulation2024 setup folder] below is where the AVEVA PRO/II Simulation 2024 install
setup.exe is and the whole path must be surrounded by double quotes if it contains a space.

Install options
1. INSTALLDIR - AVEVA PRO/II Simulation 2024 Install location (default: C:\Program files\SIMSCI). Use double
quotes around the path if it contains a space. Example: INSTALLDIR="C:\Program Files\SimSci"
2. SECURITY_TYPE - AVEVA PRO/II Simulation 2024 security type, such as SECALS, FNP1116, TKN1116 (default:
FNP1116). Example: SECURITY_TYPE=FNP1116

3. SECURITY_EXPIRY - Number of days before license expiry when you want to start getting the license expiry
notification while launching AVEVA PRO/II Simulation. Default value is 15. Example: SECURITY_EXPIRY=20
4. IPASSI_LICENSE_FILE - FLEXlm/TOKEN license manager (default: none). Example:
IPASSI_LICENSE_FILE=@FLEXlmServer
5. QUICK_LAUNCH_ICON – Option to create a quick launch icon (default: not create). To create the icon, use
QUICK_LAUNCH_ICON=1
6. DESKTOP_ICON – Option to create a desktop icon (default: create). To not create the icon, use
DESKTOP_ICON=""
7. ADDLOCAL – to specify what AVEVA PRO/II Simulation 2024 features to install. If this option is not used in the
AVEVA PRO/II Simulation 2024 silent install, the program will install CommonRequired and SIM4MEPortal.
Features that can be specified include OPC_UAServer.
Note that unless ADDLOCAL=ALL is used, feature CommonRequired must always be included in the list when
using the ADDLOCAL option.
Examples: To install all features, use

The command above uses FNP1116 for security, sets expiry notice period of 20 days before license expiry, installs
AVEVA PRO/II Simulation 2024 to C:\Program Files\SimSci, does not create the desktop icon, creates the quick
launch icon, and uses machine server for the FNP1116 security. It also installs OPC_UAServer.

REFPROP Addon Install/Uninstall
Procedure and Handling multiple
versions
Introduction
This topic describes how to set up the REFPROP addon when the PRO/II user has available multiple versions of
the Addon and multiple versions of AVEVA™ PRO/II Simulation. This topic will focus on how to configure the
REFPROP Addon for the following software:
• 32-bit and 64-bit: PRO/II 10.x, 2020.x, 2021.x, 2022.x, 2023, and 2024
• 32-bit and 64-bit: REFPROP Addon 9.1 and 10.0
32-bit and 64-bit software
It is important to keep in mind that 32-bit PRO/II can only use the 32-bit versions of the REFPROP Addon.
Similarly, 64-bit PRO/II can only use the 64-bit versions of the REFPROP Addon. Moreover, only one version of 32-
bit REFPROP Addon can be active at a time; and only one version of 64-bit REFPROP Addon can be active at a
time. This has the following implications:
• If user has installed only 32-bit versions of PRO/II then only one 32-bit version of REFPROP Addon can be
active.
• If user has installed only 64-bit versions of PRO/II then only one 64-bit version of REFPROP Addon can be
active.
• If user has installed 32-bit and 64-bit versions of PRO/II then only one 32-bit version of REFPROP Addon and
one 64-bit version of REFPROP Addon can be simultaneously active. In this case the 32-bit and 64-bit active
versions of REFPROP Addon need not correspond to the same version of REFPROP. For example, the 32-bit
version of REFPROP Addon may be v9.1 and the 64-bit version of REFPROP Addon may be v10.0.
Let us illustrate these implications. When we go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, we should see at
most two entries for REFPROP Addon, one for 32-bit installation and one for 64-bit installation, as shown
here:

However, if you see more than two entries, as shown below, then there is a good possibility that the various
installations of the Addon are compromised:
Corrective action in case of more than two Addon installs, or more than one 32-bit install, or more than
one 64-bit install present in Control Panel:
• From Control Panel, uninstall all the instances of the REFPROP Addon, one at time. The uninstall order does
not matter.
• Then delete these folders if they exist:
• C:\Program Files\Common Files\SIMSCI\RefPropAddon
• C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SIMSCI\RefPropAddon
• Finally, delete the Addon configuration file:
• C:\ProgramData\SIMSCI\RefProp.ini
Once the corrective action is completed you can proceed to install the versions of the Addon that you
want to configure.
Installation of REFPROP Addon: Where to find various things
Usually, the REFPROP Addon installation is done as part of PRO/II installation. If manual installation is required,
do the following:
• Locate "RefPropAddonSetup.exe" in the PRO/II install kit (folder: ThirdPartySoftware\NIST) and double-click
on it.
CAUTION: Make sure to select the correct PRO/II install kit: 32-bit or 64-bit.
IMPORTANT: Before installing REFPROP also make sure that no AVEVA simulator is running.
Regardless of the method used to install REFPROP Addon, the following folders and files are created or refreshed
during installation:

• Location of 32-bit Addon files (folder):
• C:\Program Files (x86) \Common Files\SIMSCI\RefPropAddon
• Location of 64-bit Addon files (folder):
• C:\Program Files\Common Files\SIMSCI\RefPropAddon
• Location of configuration file:
• C:\ProgramData\SIMSCI\RefProp.ini
REFPROP fluid files
Another important folder is the location of the REFPROP fluid files. There are two possible locations for these
files.
Standalone REFPROP install
If user has installed the standalone REFPROP package (obtained directly from NIST), then those fluid files could
be paired with the respective REFPROP Addon. The location of the standalone REFPROP installation usually is
found under C:\Program Files (x86), and the path to the fluid files folder may look similar to one of these:
• C:\Program Files (x86) \REFPROP91\fluids
• C:\Program Files (x86) \REFPROP10.0\FLUIDS
(With some care, it is possible to have multiple versions of standalone REFPROP in the same computer.)

Users also can request the fluid files from AVEVA. In this case AVEVA supplies an install kit that copies the fluid
files to:
• C:\Program Files (x86) \SIMSCI
During installation, a separate folder is created for each version of the REFPROP fluid files. The folder
structure will look like this:
• C:\Program Files (x86) \SIMSCI\RefProp90
• C:\Program Files (x86) \SIMSCI\RefProp91
• C:\Program Files (x86) \SIMSCI\RefProp100
Locating REFPROP fluid files during REFPROP Addon installation
The last step of the REFPROP Addon installation consists of locating the fluid files corresponding to the version of
the Addon being installed. At this point the user is presented with the following dialog:

The Search button is the default action; it automatically searches for available REFPROP fluid files folders and
picks one. However, if the user has multiple fluid files folders, then using the Browse button instead is
recommended since it allows the user to navigate to the correct fluid files folder.
Uninstallation of REFPROP Addon
To uninstall REFPROP Addon:
1. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
2. Uninstall the REFPROP Addon Module. If you have both 32-bit and 64-bit active versions of REFPROP Addon,
then uninstall the one you intend to replace with a different version of REFPROP (e.g., uninstall 32-bit 9.1
because you plan to use 32-bit 10.0).
IMPORTANT: It is recommended and always a good practice to uninstall any existing REFPROP Addon using
uninstallation process; then proceed to install the REFPROP Addon that you want to evaluate or use for
production work.
IMPORTANT: Before uninstalling REFPROP also make sure that no AVEVA simulator is running.
After the uninstall step is completed, make sure the corresponding RefPropAddon folder is deleted. This ensures
that no contamination occurs when REFPROP Addon is reinstalled. As mentioned earlier, the RefPropAddon
install folder will be one of these:
• 32-bit install folder: C:\Program Files (x86) \Common Files\SIMSCI\RefPropAddon
• 64-bit install folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\SIMSCI\RefPropAddon
It is also important that you make a backup copy of the RefProp.ini file found in:
• C:\ProgramData\SIMSCI\RefProp.ini.
If no version of REFPROP Addon remains active, then this file can be discarded. However, if you have 32-bit
and 64-bit versions of PRO/II installed and you want to use REFPROP Addon in 32-bit and 64-bit modes then
the existing RefProp.ini file may contain information for both the versions.
How PRO/II locates the REFPROP Addon?
PRO/II always looks for the configuration file in this location:
• C:\ProgramData\SIMSCI\RefProp.ini
Once the file is found, PRO/II looks for the following items:

• RefPropDllPath
• RefPropFluidsPath
• RefPropXmlFilePath
However, to find these items PRO/II must also indicate a search tag, something like "[RefProp]." It turns out
that the tag to search for depends on two factors:
• The version of PRO/II.
• Whether PRO/II needs to load the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the REFPROP Addon.
The table below shows the tags used by various versions of PRO/II.

REFPROP supported components
Each version of REFPROP Addon supports a particular list of components. Moreover, each new version of
REFPROP Addon supports new components in addition to the previously supported components.
It is also important to know that each version of REFPROP Addon has been released with a particular version of
PRO/II, and that version of PRO/II hardcodes the list of supported components. This means that an older version
of PRO/II using say the latest version of the Addon (10.0) can only support its built-in list of supported
components even though the latest version of the Addon supports more components.
What about REFPROP Addon v9.0 or PRO/II earlier than v10.0?
The premise of this document is that users are only interested in using REFPROP Addon 9.1 and 10.0 with PRO/II
10.x, 2020.x 2021.x, 2022.x, 2023.x, and 2024. If a user needs to use REFPROP Addon 9.0, or PRO/II earlier than
v10.0, then additional discussion, and review with AVEVA should take place. As a side note, it is worth knowing
that REFPROP Addon 9.0 only supports 32-bit binaries. The historical reason for this is that when REFPROP
Addon 9.0 was released only 32-bit PRO/II was available.
