Answer the following question:
1. What is enamel? How does it help our teeth?
Ans: Enamel is the hard , white coloured outer covering that covers the
crown of the tooth.
*It is the hardest part of the body.
* It protects our tooth from daily wear and tear while chewing.
2. Explain the function of-
a) Premolars- Premolars help us by chewing and crushing the food we
eat.
b) Molars- They help to grind the food
c) Pulp- It carries blood vessels which supply nutrients to the tooth.
3. How does brushing too often harm our teeth?
Ans: Brushing too often can also affect our teeth as it will wear off the
enamel that covers and protects teeth. Without enamel teeth will
become sensitive and be easily attacked by germs.
4. What are cavities? How do cavities harm our teeth?
Ans: The holes that form in the teeth when acid act on them are called
cavities. Germs enter the cavities and teeth begin to rot and decay.

Ans: * Teeth helps us to chew food.
 Teeth also helps us to speak.
 Teeth gives us a good shape to our face .

3. What are the harmful effects of not brushing teeth regularly? List any
three.
Ans: The harmful effects of not brushing teeth regularly.
 The food gets stuck in teeth ,it becomes food for germs .As a
result a sticky layer of germs called plaque is formed.
 Cavities may develop.
 Mouth will have a foul breathe.
4. List three ways in which we can take of our teeth.
Ans: * Brush your teeth twice everyday.
 Avoid eating too many chocolates and sweets.
 Eat healthy food . Visit the dentist twice a year.
5. Eating sugary/ sour food can affect the pulp of the teeth . Do you
agree with this sentence? Why/Why not?
Ans: Yes we agree. When we eat sugary food the germs in our teeth
break down the sugar to make a substance called acid and acid erodes
enamel of teeth and causes cavities.
6. Regina had a bad habit of opening bottle using her front teeth . How
do you think this will affect her ?
Ans: Her front teeth will be damaged and even break.
