DELF A1 Syllabus & Course Structure
Overall Objective
At the A1 level, learners are expected to:
- Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases.
- Introduce themselves and others.
- Ask and answer questions about personal details.
- Interact in a simple way if the other person speaks slowly and clearly.
Themes / Topics
You should be able to speak, read, write, and understand topics like:
- Personal identity (name, nationality, age, profession)
- Family and relationships
- Daily routine and activities
- Weather and seasons
- Food and drinks
- Shopping and clothing
- House and home
- Directions and locations
- Leisure, hobbies, holidays
- Basic health
- Time, dates, numbers
- School and workplace
Linguistic Competencies
1. Speaking:
- Introducing yourself and others
- Asking and answering basic personal questions
- Describing people, places, and objects
- Ordering food, buying tickets, asking for prices, etc.
- Giving and understanding basic directions

2. Listening:
- Understanding short and simple audio conversations
- Grasping main points in familiar contexts
- Understanding announcements, instructions, and questions
3. Reading:
- Reading simple texts like advertisements, public signs, menus, invitations, emails, forms, and timetables
4. Writing:
- Filling out forms (name, nationality, address, etc.)
- Writing a postcard, email or short message
- Describing yourself or your family in a few lines
Exam Format
Scoring: /100 - 50 is passing
Minimum passing score in each section: 5/25
Total minimum to pass: 50/100
Listening (Comprehension orale): 20 min - /25
Reading (Comprehension ecrite): 30 min - /25
Writing (Production ecrite): 30 min - /25
Speaking (Production orale): 5-7 min (with prep time) - /25
Grammar and Structures
- Subject pronouns (je, tu, il, elle...)
- Present tense of regular and common irregular verbs (etre, avoir, aller, faire, venir, etc.)
- Articles: definite, indefinite, partitive (le, la, un, une, des, du, etc.)
- Gender and number agreement
- Adjectives (placement and agreement)

- Basic prepositions (a, de, chez, dans...)
- Negation (ne...pas)
- Question formation (Est-ce que..., inversion, etc.)
- Demonstrative (ce, cette, ces), possessive adjectives (mon, ton, son...)
